Post

Hello,

My I35 started making noises everytime I would turn the wheel to the left, so I took it in to the shop. The guy told me today that it needs left lower control arm "bushing was bad" , front struts bec the nuts were loose so it damaged the struts, and inner tie rods. He also told me that I may need Strut mounts, but they wont know until they take it apart. Here's my dilema, I have taken my car to these people in the past and they were good to me, however this time they are asking for $1600 for parts and labor and I am like WHAT?!?!? I need a second opinion, what do you people think the problem is? and should I take it to another mechanic for a 2nd opinion? there's no way I can swing $1600 just like that. Oh and he said I am better off doing it all at once, since it will cost less for the labor. I really thought INFINITI was a reliable machine and after owening one for 5 months, I am realizing that It is not. Last month alone I spent $300 for a purge and other... Any comments or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys

They are reliable machines. I have over 275,000 miles on mine and it's still kicking.

Here's my advice. First, get a second opinion. If the second opinion says the same thing then you're going to have to have the repairs done. HOWEVER... I just had two lower control arms, tie-rod ends, and sway bar bushings replaced on my I30 for about $250 (parts and labor).

That encompasses about half to two-thirds of your problem (assuming the mechanic was accurate).

Front stuts should put you back about $100 a piece plus labor.

I'd say you could get the whole thing done for about $700. That should include parts, labor, and an alignment.

Before you get too happy. Let me check with the ebay seller I bought my setup from to see if they carry yours too.

I just called them and they are going to give me a call back tomorrow with details on the parts for your car.

What year I35?

Here's the listing for the ones I bought and had installed

Also, you could probably get struts for less than $100. If you hadn't noticed, the NICO way of saving money is doing as much of your car work yourself. I DON'T recommend you try installing these parts yourself, but getting them yourself will save you hundreds.
