Hello all,

Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated.

I live in sacramento california, where i recently attained a redtop sr20det, froma one "Venus Auto". Unfortunatley after the first problem of having them sell me a bent to s*** motor. I got what i think to be a decent one, after some hassle. After many hours of hard work, and stupid mistakes...i finally have the sr in and ready to be firing...but it won't. When i bought it, it was a motorset, not a front clip, which unfortunately ff***ed me.

I have spark, we tested every coil pack...and im getting fuel (to be addressed in a minute) and i have compression. So i thought the only thing left was timing...and i have followed all the directions i can find for this, and its still not wanting to turn over. But it really feels like it should be in right. Also the fuel issue i am having, is that when i crank kthe engine and it won't fire(crap!) The whole area starts to smell like gasoline, and i was wondering what would cause that...as i have never had a car that did that...not even my 1974 ford econoline...haha.

Once again any help will be greatly appreciated...

If anyone lives in the area, and would prefer to take a look at it, privately e-mail me at [email protected]

Thanks everyone, and sorry about the lengthy post.

Bennett

you pulled the CAS and reinstalled it like the FSM says?

and the gas smell is where the car pours gas in on start up, and since you're not burning the fuel, the gas just soaks the plugs and starts to smell.

Are you hearing any weird popping from the intake? I pulled my motor last january and when i put everything back in, the car was set 180 degrees off in timing. I put the CAS back in properly, but the FSM has it set up differently. That's why I believe the S14 CAS is different from the S13.

Because of this, the car was trying to spark during the top of the exhaust stroke, not the compression stroke. Since the intake valve was open by this point, i would hear what little fuel would ignite pop back out the intake.

Once you get the issue resolved, pull your plugs and burn the gas off of the ends of them. I usually use a propane torch to take care of that.

....****in' venus auto.

well...since they arent going to help. let me give you my two cents.

in may i did an SR swap for some guy on craigslist. he got his engine from engine world [they suck balls too]. his problem was simply that the inlet outlet lines on the fuel rail were reversed. the hoisting point of the engine is commonly near the fuel rail and sometimes it gets knocked around and reversed. check to see that the inlet and outlet lines for the fuel are in the right places.

when i got my black top from Venus, the reason my SR wouldnt start was because the coil packs were shorting each other out. how that happened was the valve cover was pinching the #1 coil pack wire. check to see THOSE are not touching. i believe the reading shouldnt be above .002 V, or something like that.

i am in the area during the weekends because i live in fairfield. maybe i can take a look.

OR!

shove that motor up Venus Auto's ***. everybody loves em and hates em.

...and yeah...check that CAS. my friend and i had to f*** with it for awhile until it was aligned right. the chambers will flood and sometimes it will just reek fuel. suck that fuel out and hopefully things will be good too. anyway, take care and goood luck.

Thank you everyone for all ur help. I got it started lastnight....late...

Turns out that the guy who did my wiring didn't do the ones for the instrument cluster, and there was a wire or something that was keeping it from running...so yea.

Also i ordered a Greddy Profec B Spec 2 boost controller, turns out venus also didn't supply me with the freakin' wastegate solonoids and all that stuff that the ignitor chip mounts on...so i just got a boost controller.

Thanks again.
