3 weeks ago, I got pulled over for having a "loud muffler" so I this week I went to go to a hearing. Then I went on about how the legal dB limit is 97 five feet from the exhaust at idle, and the cop didn't measure how loud it was exactly, he just based it on ear. So alas, they had to find me not liable and I got off. Muhaha, I'm so bad, because I wouldn't doubt it is over 97 dB without the cat (test pipe). But future advice for those who don't wish to be hassled by cops, the Nur Spec may not be right for you. My friends also took a pic to show you exactly how big the muffler on the Nur Spec is.

Yeah, a 2 liter diet cherry coke bottle fits in there, so I thought I'd warn all you who are in the market for an exhaust, the Nur Spec is not for the faint of heart.

Congrats of the ticket issue. If you ever have that problem again, just put the silencer on before you go get it tested. I too have a Nur Spec and it is pretty loud, but AWESOME sounding.

good work man.... always take the tickets without gettin loud with the cop, they tend to forget to do tests and just write up the ticket, if you got loud with him he might have tested just to show you..

ALWAYS take the ticket with having the cop do the least amount of work, then fight it later:D

I find it odd that they hand out tickets for loud CAR exhausts...

...and yet my idiot neighbor with the obnoxiously straight-piped Harley is permitted to roar past my window at 1:00 in the morning (presumably on his way home from the bar)

Someday the gods shall grant me justice. Anyway, congrats on sticking it to the man.

Yup, I just answered "Yes sir" or "No sir" to everything, wrote it up and told me my options. But, in my head I was thinking "Are you serious? What a dumb reason for getting pulled over, first you have no proof of exactly how loud it is, second, I will get off on this, third, why waste our time and taxpayers' money and lastly, the cop had no jurisdiction where I was". Oh well, just stick with the 5th I say, and good thing IL cops don't keep dB meters with them ;]

I have a ticket that I have to go to court for - loud exhaust. It's total BS. I agree with the fact that motorcycles are so loud and that they never pull over American cars. Only imports with "fart cans". I've got a NurSpecR and it's loud, but I've heard much louder. Should I put the silencer in and tell them it's not over 97db? Is that what you did, or do you have any other recomendations.

Bikes are allowed to have as loud of an exaust as they want. Makes up for not always being able to see them that well. But I do think its BS that alot of american muscle cars dont get pulled over. My friends mustang had H pipes and he let me drive it one night. Way to loud, but the cop I didn't see when I passed floring it didn't care. Had I been in the 240, I'm sure I would of seen blue lights

on the subject of motorcycles, they are allowed to have such REDICULOUSLY loud exhausts b/c they come from the factory (idiot shop) that way. Most laws state that any aftermarket exhuast is illegal. Luckily for my most cops in Ok. are more interested in pulling me over for tailgating or something stupid like that... it's some BS...

I agree on the motorcycle thing.

The m/c groups are better able to argue their ridiculous reasoning because they're better organized, and therefore have a lot of "pull".

The whole "Loud Pipes Save Lives" thing is a joke, since the sound is primarily focused to the REAR of a rider, not the front.

Good job staying cool - That's why the court system is in place, sounds like a happy ending.

I'd have to disagree.

I've still made notice of bikes I otherwise couldn't see by the tone of their exhaust.

I also disagree. My dad had some huge pipes on his motorcylce which were very loud. Then one day, he put the stock ones back on and noticed a number of cars pulling into his lanes that usually didn't happen.

Even though the sound is from behind, you can still hear a motorcycle coming from way behind with loud pipes which decreases the chance of cars cuttin you off.

BTW,

LMAO.

Yeah, exhaust tones are bass-ey (especially on obnoxious motorcycles). Bass is non-directional, which is why you can put subs in your trunk.

Are you saying that removing the old exhaust from the downpipe back and then putting 2.5 inch pipe to a straight through glass pack and then realizing its too loud so putting a lower restriction cat in there to quiet it down is illegal? if so. who cares and how are they going to prove it? As for getting pulled over, i think its bs that they don't pull over anyone but us "Rice Burners" and out where i live, what about the piecer trucks that blow your ear drums when they drive by?

you guys gotta remember, they went after hte muscle cars/trucks back in the day, my dad says they used to get pulled over for loud exhaust all the time...now, imports/hondas  are getting pulled over mainly because of the whole 'street racing' scene where everybody AND their mom has taking a liking to, and puts biggass wings/ exhaust on cars that dont need it! so anyways imports in general are the new thing for them to pull over and harrass, we best watch out...240s/RWD imports are going to be the new thing to pull over, once everybody and their mother starts thinking they are a bunch of doridori buddys and start drifting through busy intersections trying to be cool

Its the nice sports bike I don't exactly hear but I do hear the motorcyles themselves because they are loud such as the Harley, for example. I had some guy on a sports bike riding 2ft from the rear of my car and wouldn't have notice that he was behind me if I didn't look in the rear mirror. Then he precedes to pass me and the car infront. If he wasn't on a bike I know he wouldn't have made it without crashing into the oncoming car. He better be glad he was on that bike.
