1st I tried starting it with the remote starter... didn't start So I went out to start the Q and she won't start by hand cranking the key.I do hear a small thump after I'm done cranking on the key and turn it off.

Worked fine after work the night before.

The fuel pump fuse seems fine.

1\2 a tank of Shell VPower 102 Octain.

Can you hear the fuel pump operating, and when you turn the key, about 5 seconds later you should hear the relay click off...

I do here the pump prime for about 5-8 seconds although is seems louder than normal.

Do you think there could be water in the gas tank?

I also smell gas in the engine compartment.

I killed my battery yesterday. So I will charge it and see if she wants to start today. Also all the pipes froze in my house so it has been REALLY cold out.

What would that little thump be after I turn off the key after cranking?

Water frozen in the system? Do you have to run gasohol there? If you can get it warm and above 32 and it starts thats prob it. My sister drove up from So. GA a few years ago, it was about -5 here and it froze up on the freeway( not too far from here), they just had it towed somewhere and they charged the stuffing out of them for letting it warm up and putting in some drier!

Hope your house is OK.

I went out and stuck my head in the trunk and used the remote starter and heard a loud high pitch whine I guess it might be time for a new pump.

Last Q had the sending unit go bad. I had bought the FPCU and the sending unit also got a pump from Garcia Infiniti and all that was needed was the sending unit but the dealer said you MUST replace the whole system.

So I did to the tune of 1400.00 dollars.

I took the FPCU out when I sold the car and put back in the stock (with no burn marks inside or out) so I should be ok in the FPCU dept.

How do I test the pump to see if it is pumping out fuel should I get a container and remove a hose or is the High pitch whining enough to replace the pump?

$1400.00 OUCH

I'd try the cheap and easy first. Disconn. the filter side off the rail, after taking off the gas filler cap (Smiley since I didn't and got a total eyeful of gas once) and do the container thing, just to make sure it's frozen. Then take the filter off and see if anything comes out the filter -frozen and unfrozen.

Someone told me this morning we hit -10 F last nite.

Not frozen. Pump still pumping (it seems).

I removed the fuel lines that run over the valvecovers and put them in a washed out container and and remote started the car and got covered in fuel very quickly...

I think the pump might last a while longer.I don't think there's a fuel clog. It cranks whats the best way to check for spark on a Q?

If you have a inductive timing light (hope so), clip it on the black wire on top of the ignitor on the valve cover. For details go to http://www.q45.org Under timing there's pix.

If you don't have one; I've seen a spark checker at Autozone -a little pen w/a light in it that shows if there's a spark it's real cheap. Not sure if it will work on a Q though, I have one but never tried it on the Q car, since it's made for plug wires.

EDIT: How old is that pump? Did you try through the filter and before? From what I read around here spark probs are rare.

Do you get a code at the ECU?I'm running out of ideas...
