I was wondering if I should paint my redtop valve cover to black, or like a flat black. And no, i'm not asking because I want it to look like a blacktop. It's because my friend with a redtop SR got pulled over and got his hood popped open by a CHP officer. The cop said if the motor in his car was the stock engine. My friend of course said yes. The cop just said ok, because he doesn't see many red colored valve covers for most cars he pulls over and has their hood popped.

Do you guys think it would be better if the cop just saw a "normal" color when he pops the hood, a color like black, which most cars are. I'm just scared that if i do get pulled over and he/she asks me to pop my hood. I just want them seeing a somewhat normal engine you know.. I dunno, haha, I was just thinking about this today. I DON'T want my car being towed due to my engine swap. Haha. It's not that I do crazy things on the road, it's because of my Blitz Nurspec exhaust that can attract attention. And that's one reason I can be pulled over. Tell me what you guys think!

What do you think you should do?

If you think it'll keep you out of trouble, then I'd say go for it. I like the idea. If we had the same kind of scrutiny up here in WA, I'd probably do the same thing, for even the possibility of tilting the odds a little bit in my favor.

If you're going to paint it any color, paint it the KA tan/gold color so as to throw them off even more...

I like that idea...I would also recommend, and it seems you already have, taken the coilpack cover off...it says "turbo"...

maybe sandblast the valve cover so its the raw aluminum color, so its reminiscent of the ka. depends on how smart the cop is to nissans:)

Ah wait Should have read better, RockenReno already covered that.

Well, Hondas with DOHC VTEC come with bright red valve covers.

Well, it's up to you, if you think it's easier to get away with the SR with a black valve cover than a red one, you should paint it. I think in this case, you DON'T want the cop to know what your engine is ;p
