So I am opting for a CA but then I see RB20's all over the place for about the same price if not less, Why are they so cheap? If I got an RB would I be spending money out the arse putting it in?

They're cheap because it's the least desirable of the RB series, and for the cost most guys would rather go SR or some CA for about the same displacement. The pricing on just the motorset isn't accurate, because you're going to spend 2-5 times that amount just to get it in the car and running properly/safely (maintenance and easy upgrades, flywheel, clutch, pumps, gaskets, etc)

GL and please search around, there are tons of threads just like yours with lots of info for the new guy to digest..

spend $ out of your "arse" definately if you handing all the work to the shop. but if you do your own swap, you save alot on labor $. between an sr and rb20, i would do the rb20 anyday (s14/5 hunch-back sr20 is a different story tho, but it cost like the rb25). rb all the way.

My complete swap was less than $2500 to $3000 for rb20det...

I did all the work myself, the clutch was fine, it came with a new timing belt and a new water pump..

I did new plugs, wires, coil pack conversion, z32 igniter swap, 1 piece aluminum drive shaft, R32 crossmember, xs power front mount, godspeed 2 inch radiator, 2x sentra fans and a couple of other goodies

Ive daily driven it for a while now, and put about 12k on the motor :-)

because its a trickthey set that price so no one buys thembecuase they are secretly manpower motorshehbut seriously, they are alot harder to source parts forsince nissan america didnt produce the rb series in any model offered herebut they did with the sr20. even though alot of z32 parts are used, for the rb,so just with the fact of convinence and part pricing, the motors are more expensive, not to mention the ease of install COMPARED to any of the RBs.

Im in the process of swapping an rb20 in and let me tell you, its far from cheap.

According to my research to get it running decent you will need:

-mount kit (or an r32 crossmember, try jhot thats where i got mine, great company)-fuel pump-nismo fpr or equivalent-electric rad fans (you should get a better rad too since yours is most likely shot, like mine, but im gonna wait a bit )-water pump most likely-clutch (might as well)-front and rear main seals-fmic or some other kind of intercooler and piping

thats at least an extra 2k right there so budget for 3-3.5k for this swap to be done properly...

sure rb's are a little harder to find parts for, but retrofitting 300zx parts and such isn't any harder than an sr20 or ca18 motor.

Rb20 is a direct bolt in like the ca or sr with a mount kit. I guess it just depends if you like the peaky feeling of a high strung 4cyl, or the nice flat torque curve of a long stroke 6 cyl.

rb20's are by far not the fastest motor out there, but they are fun.
