What coil pack do you guys run in RB motors? Here are you options(p.s. please explain any reason:

1) Raw Brokerage's very own SS Performance ignition coil packs

2) Splitfire Direct Ignition System

3) Buick GNX Ignition coil

4) LSX Ignition coil

I've heard lots of good things about the LSx coils, aside from the whole wire splice and where to mount thing part.

Personally, I run Splitfire and I love them.

Why do you want to switch? Are you having ignition problems now? Sounds like you are trying to burn some money and you should choose something else.

Stock coils are good to over 600hp and 2.0 bar of boost. Ask me how I know

...IF they are in perfect operating condition.

Most likely, they are tired 15 year old coils and need to be replaced when you start throwing some real fuel and boost at them.

Here's the summary:

Splitfires - Expensive for the performance level. They are a great drop-in product typically alleviating misfires caused by old coils. For an average 500hp setup, they will do.

GM coils - AKA Buick GN coils. These coils are wasted spark coils found in nearly every GM sedan from the 90's. Wasted spark is a waste of time, so skip to LS2 coils if you are even thinking about going this route.

LSx - LS1 coils work better than Splitfires and GM coils from a performance standpoint, but you have to rewire the ignition drivers from the ECU. Even better than the LS1 coils are the LS2 and the LS2 truck coils. The truck coils have been shown to put out more spark than the standard LS2 coils and have better cooling from the integrated heat sink on the housing. They have built in ignitors so all you RB25 S1 guys can ditch the ignitor on top of the coil cover. This setup should cost no more than $350 and you will never exceed its power limitations. If you do, you are god.

SS coils - Wha? I have no idea what those are, so I'll leave that part of the response up to Ricky. But I'm imagining them being competition for the Splitfires at a more reasonable price.

If you really wanted to be a baller and could justify having 6 of these bad boys, I'd run these CDI coils along with an IC&E CDI ignition module with built-in rev limiter and 2-step.

Thanks guys.

Yea the Super Spark (SS) Coils that I sell are much like the SpitFires we here have come accustomed to. Direct replacements, I have yet to have a customer have an issue with them not performing. Made in Australia so they're not your Ebay brand coil.

Going the LSX coil route is also a great option that many has found success with as well. And has been covered countless of times including above so I feel I don't have to really explain that one.

Okada Projects Plasma Direct Coils seem to work pretty well for me.

I just finished installing the Okada Coils in my R33 GTR and although expensive, I am now running my plugs at the normal gap. My idle is flawless and I have zero cut out under high boost. One bit of warning for people looking for plug and play installation, the harness that comes with these does require you to cut the connector at the back of the block and crimp on some new connectors. It is a PITA due to the location under the hood, but well worth the end results.

I have Splitfire. No complaints. These are in an RB20.
