I recently had dealings with David at MemoryFab.com, and they left MUCH to be desired.

Let me start from the top, I called David in October of 12 at the recommendation of many from this forum. That day I ordered KYB SR Specials and Insurance Springs for my 99 Q45T. I explained to David that my vehicle had gotten to the point of being dangerous and I wanted to get my set up as quickly as possible -for My children often ride in this vehicle and we had not been taking any trips do to safety concern. I explained to David as a single father unexpected expenses come up and that I needed him to take my payment immediately and he took my credit card information and we were off to the races. December rolls around, and David calls me to see if I "still want that set up". And Im like" yeah man, I paid you for it in October." He tells me that he never took payment from me because he wanted to get my resellers permit. Frusterated, I tell David, okay, fine fine, breakdown in communication, no problem. Right?

Fast forward to February, David calls to ask me again If I want the set up because they should be in late April or May. No problem, So I make a payment and send him a copy of my resellers permit and again, I assume we are off to the races. Disappointed in how our initial dealing went down I called David in March, to check in and verify my payment was taken, he assured me "Yes, its done we are good!" I confirmed a time frame of sometime in May. I called again in April just to verify payment one more time and check that everything is on time, "Yes, Don, We are good!" comfortable this time double confirming I get excited, waiting for my set up. In the mean time, my son has himself a nice little 5 hr $4000 hospital visit. Which just about wipes out the remainder of my savings. The end of May rolls around and I call David to see when My struts and springs will be in, and suddenly he tells me "Let me check to see If you have paid" I said of course I did we have been going over this with me driving you crazy for 3 months now. But to my disgust, this guy had been wasting my time for the last 7 months. Now I don't have the funds I had before, and yeah, I know I should watch my accounting better, but what can I say, I assumed People who are in business will not hesitate to take my money when I tell them I want to buy their product. Lesson learned. David then offered me "Free shipping" for wasting my time, ($48) I felt I deserved a little better than that. I Offered Him $900 shipped down from $1048 shipped, and he said he would get back to me in a day or 2 after he figured out what he could do. I called him 2 days later, and was given the run around. Then called again the following Monday and was told he was gone for the week. f*** this guy. I told them not to bother David, and I would be leaving appropriate feedback for the protection of other Nico members. Sorry to air this dirty laundry, but I would feel pretty crappy if this happened to anyone else when I could have warned them.

My point, don't waste your time at MemoryFab.com

BTW. Still need struts and springs, unfortunately. Oh well, Back to square one.

We always welcome feedback on shops and businesses - They're not a vendor here, but if they were, I'd be investigating this myself. We don't tolerate stuff like this from ANY of our vendors.

So, did you ever get your $ back?

Let's run this up the flagpole in a few places and see what David has to say. He can make it right, he can dispute the story, or he can ignore it... We're all about full disclosure here. :)

To clarify, he never actually stole anything from me- except my time. 7 mos of waiting and being misled...only to discover I he hadn't charged me after I had practically jammed my money down his throat...now after hospital bills I have no setup. And I am fool for assuming someone would want to take my money at the very moment I wanted to purchase their product.

Ah.

Well, let's find you some parts.

Now, you said your car was "unsafe" because it needs springs and shocks - what's wrong with OEM-style replacements?

I was really hoping to sit a little lower and have a little firmer ride. Not that I don't think OEM would provide a nice ride, but I don't like the 70's Cadillac ride. Any suggestions? Also, can you even buy parts for The Y33 from the dealer any more?

There have to be some Eibach springs out there.

The KYB SR Specials have to be imported, and that is usually only done when the container is full. With the Yen appreciation and slight depreciation, I bet there are fewer containers leaving Japan these day with JDM parts.

Go OEM from Joe. Don't get any springs that are not made specifically for the FGY33.

*ahem*

The OP has 3 posts. I'm pretty sure he doesn't know "joe".

maxnix is referring to one of our vendors, http://www.infinitipartsusa.com/

If the need for proper suspension is indeed an "emergency", as your original post made it sound, OEM is better than fine.

Alternatively, a quick search here in the Q45 forum should yeild some additional good advice on lowering a Y33.

I will agree that only springs made for the US version are good to go. I have the Teins which are working okay although 7 years later I have a little issue with the tire hitting on the right side (I have given up trying to completely fix it, only happens once in a while). So I did start to look around for a new set of springs and talked with Memory Fab as I has heard they could get the Esplier or Insurance springs.

At this point I have had my Q lowered with the Tein Springs, KYB SR Specials and threw on 06' M45 rims that required spacers. The Caddy ride is completely gone, it is more like a M version of the Q. But that said, if it was in 2013 and I have a 1999 car I really have to say "how much longer do I want to drive this car?" If your in love and want to fix the KS, Coil Packs, etc that come at the 150k mark, then keep looking. If your just trying to get back to a safe ride, call infinitiparts and order some OEM strut/shocks and call it a day.

Unfortunately there were never any Eibachs for the 2nd Gen, Insurance, Tein, Espelir were the main ones with Tein being the only one back in 2002 when I got them from Kevin Falk who was one of the first members to start figuing out how to get stuff out of Japan.

One last place you can try calling is Inspire, 510-668-1161, the MemoryFab guys actually gave me their number as a possible player for springs and SR Specials.

Thank you guys for all your help. I have to say, I just did the KS MAF and Coil packs and royal purple front to back where I could get it so it appears I am in bed with this car pretty good. I enjoy it and its looks, it doesn't look like a Power Ranger helmet like most of the new stuff, its got an aire of instant classic to me that I don't mind owning. Its exceptionally clean and very well kept for its age. Plus, for the time being, its what I have. My SS is on hiatus during a complete resto. I have checked with Infiniti parts usa and unfortunately the front struts do not appear to be available any longer. Also being that my car is a Touring car do I have anything I should prepare for when swapping struts and springs? Different parts? I know about the searches here but it seems these topics have been covered quite a bit and locating relevant information has become a little more difficult. Has anyone had any experience ordering JDM parts from rakuten.com? They seem to have a lot of stuff for the y33 but I don't hear much chatter about it around here, which has me skeptical. My car is at the point that when the freeway connects to a bridge, that slight difference in road flops my car all over the road, an accident is imminent if I don't get this fixed. I am also a little skeptical of any offerings from Memory Fab, The whole situation seemed very bush league amateur to me.

that site is a just a clearing house, even farther away from the point of sale than Amazon. Since you say you in for the duration I would think about doing some coilovers. There have been a few folks that I recall doing Insurance coilovers with good luck. There are also some guys that did the Magen's but there is some welding that had to be done. So a search on this site you should be able to find them.

I hear you on the looks, while the 2nd Gen was never a head turner, I walk away from my car and always take that peek back to admire how good it looks. Lowered and with the bigger wheels it really doesn't look like any car on the road:

If I was starting over I would probably have done coilovers in one big unit. That all said, worst case find some KYB SR Specials as the replacement OEM are KYB as well and the SR Specials are way better in terms of quality never mind performance.
