well I had decided that my engine needs a rebuild because when i try and drive it it throws out a nice white smoke screen that covers the whole road. so i was looking a prices for stuff and figured i would look at some of the other forums. I was looking at the ka-t forum and was reading a thread about buying turbos and someone said that you had to use a restrictor when using a T series turbo...This got me wondering and i did another search on google and found more about this...I think this is my problem...I am very happy that i found this out before i went and rebuilt the engine. I figured this would be a good thing to know if anyone is planning on using a T series turbo.....here is the link to the site

and just think i was getting ready to put out anouther 1000 dollars and wouldnt have fixed the problem..the fix shouldnt be anymore the 3 bucks at the hardware store.

Hmm..don't believe everything that you read on forums. Call a reputable turbo supplier.

I read everywhere that the GT28 roller bearing turbos need a restrictor in the oil line..I don't have one, and see no problems as a result.

For the small amount of cost/effort/risk, by all means give it a go.

Not knowing how old your valve guides, turbo oil seals or pistons rings are. It's a bit hard to comment on other causes.

I hope you can stop banging your head soon.

its because almost all GT turbos come with oil restrictors built in.

I'm running a brand new S15 Spec R SR20DET turbo (basically a modified GT28R). I'm using no restrictor. It's built into the CHRA. I do thing that tons of white smoke could still be a bad turbo though. Check the compression on the motor and see how it is. If that comes out OK, then I doubt the motor needs a rebuild.
