The best "gurads" against someone messing with your car, are stealth and hide it. Nothing else will be completely "safe".

Check out the top of the line alarms (as mentioned int he thread you read), try to make the install (stereo or gauges for the turbo, etc) as stock looking as posssible and don't be the king of bass everywhere, that's just like marking a big red bulls eye on your car.

Also, as Jesda mentioned some try a fuel cut off (doesn't deter a roll back) see the thread about that below.

well see what you do is, talk to the poeple who made the movie 007, and see if you can get ahold of they're stealh car setup, that uses small cameras of teh surrounding to make it virtually invisible, thats the best way imho

Well, if you make it look like a beater, ie. Rust holes, missing window, busted light(s), then noone will want to mess with it because they'll be afraid of getting tetnes

Seriously though, there is no way to make your car completely inpenetrable. When there's glass, there's a way

Now, to make your car less likely to be broken into, you might want to get one of those HUs that disappears when it's powered down. Or better yet, I saw this lock box type thing that a guy made where when the HU was turned off, it motored backwards about 6inchs and then a plate slid down to protect the HU from theft.

Now, I think he had one of those $$$$ HUs that was actually worth saving, but for normal applications a standard flip-down HU will do.

For total car theft deterent. A fuel cutoff and/or an ignition cutoff is the best way to go

Pshh... and have some idiot back into the "empty" parking space?

007 aint got nothing on the Batmobile. I'm talking about the original one with the Joker. Bullet Proof everything! (Even the freaking tires...) But I guess it's still vulnerable to the almighty flatbed

I had one of those way back in the day, it was made by Blitzsafe and the total travel was only about 1 inch. it either sunk 1/2 inch into the dash, or when the door opened, it would protrude about a 1/2 inch out of the "sleeve". I had a Honda stereo blank that I ground down and glued to the "door", so when closed it looked like I had no stereo at all. But that only helps if no one has ever heard you go down the road pounding.

Mask style headunits are crap! They are plaqued with problems. For instance Kenwood Mask units that have the notorius ribbon cable failure problem,I belive they are just are poorly engineered. Many happen within the warranty period and are fixed at no charge. But these are likely to fail again. All of these style are suceptable to this problem. The D-mask or mask face with detachable face are the most prone to the failure. Please do not purchase of one of these style products. Yes the hide when you turn off the key, but theives aren't all stupid if the want it they'll take it anyway. You can't make it impossible to break in to your car but many have tried this. My friend shaved the door handles on his ford probe, and removed the key latch plate for the hatch, this was an excellent deterent. But he did have an attempted theft of his stereo and other contents when his window was broken. Luckily his 2 way pager alarm notified him. I suggest a good security system, a good insurance policy , and canine or two.

Nah, it's ok. It'll look great once I put the intake back on. I'm polishing it to as near a mirror finish as possible.

As for your system and goodies inside....Impossible to prevent theft. There is always goign to be some idiot who want to steal your stuff no matter where it's at. H3ll I'm sure they would do it in front of a police station......that was a very funny site guess they thought the glass shattering and them yanking inside wouldn't draw attention. As for theft of your vehicle.Toggle switches are common but can be effective, Mine is the clutch sensor so I have to lean and push everytime I start it. You can simply put a fuse in this simple switch or rig it to a toggle switch somewhere else. Who would think of a switch on your door handle, under your ash tray, inside your dome light...etc
