so on occasion my Q will not start since the security system isn't turning off (the light is staying on when I have the Key in). I have to repeatedly remove/reinsert the key before it will decide it sees the key and lets the car start. So...I would rather just bypass this system and not worry about it, has anyone had any luck doing this? I did a forum search for 'disable security' but didn't find any good answers...

I have been told that you can unbolt the hood pin switch and let it dangle under the hood. Supposedly this prevents the system from ever arming. This was something mentioned in passing by an installer at a local stereo shop, and I haven't actually tested it or confirmed that it works. The theory is that the alarm will "think" the hood is open and will never arm.

I can confirm this after studying the J30 and Q45 (G50) Anti-Theft Wiring diagrams.

well I spoke to soon, I am having problems almost every day with the security not turning off, I have to remove/insert the key multiple times before it will figure out the key is in there...any other ideas on how to shut down this system? Or would it help to get a new key made at the dealer?

I have a similar problem on 1992: I installed keyless remote, and it works, except the car beeps and refuses to start unless I use the key in one of the door locks. Worse comes to worse, I guess I can install a relay in the door that closes the key motion switch when lock solenoids fire. What a nuisance! I have not tried hood open switch, I'll give that a shot.

So far, disconnecting hood closed switch has worked for me, I can use keyless remote to lock/unlock, then start and drive. Thanks for the info.
