I want to Check Fuel Injector Resistance and do some other tests that would require a multimeter. Could you please recommend what tester to buy that can do all the tests that the Q may require? Should it be Automotive-specific? I need an easy one to use, since I've never used one before.

Here are some that I have looked at locally:

The second one is availbale on Ebay for $15.95.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem

I would go with the digital one for a better reading.

Low ohms are difficult to read accurately in inexpensive analog meter.

For future measurements of other things try to find a unit with a 20 ampere max rating instead of the 10 amperes your unit shows

Personally I like units with MIN- MAX memory [for measuring MAF and TPS voltage].

Many of the fuses are 15/20 ampere.

Tech has also recommended that you purchase a package of 10 ohm resistors (<$3 at Radio Shack) so you can make sure your voltmeter is reading properly (Low batteries give bad readings).

My DVM is from Radio Shack and cost <$20. Works great although the digital unit in the first thread of this post has some nice features for the price.

You will almost certainly need a digital meter - Most inexpensive analog meters simply don't have enough "resolution" to tell the difference between, say, 10 ohms and 15 ohms.

Harbor Freight has their No. 90899-1VGA 7-Function Digital Test Meter on sale (yet again! ) for $2.99. I've got 4 of these meters, and all of them tested out plenty accurate (within several percent of what my Fluke 73III meter reads). Although not mentioned on their website, the meter also has a 10 amp DC current range.

But 10 amps will/probably overheat and blow the internal shunt when you try to read a fuel pump or HVAC inside fan or aux condenser fan....etc...etc.

Testing window/sunroof/seat motors.

But at $3 you can get a dozen and throw them away.

After shopping around again, here is what I found that is available to me:

#1 - I can get it for $15. Brand Name is Power Fist. 20amp for 15 seconds.

#2 - Price is $39.99. No discount.

#3 - I can get this unit for $15. It's made by this company:http://www.colluck.com.hk/

#4 - I can get this unit for $15 also, but only 10 AMP.

So which one is best?

I checked a couple of techs meters at shop both of them were 10 amps and both of them had blown fuses in the ampere circuits indicating that someone sometime had tried to read more than 11 amperes [value of blown fuse].

Not to say that 20 amps is perfect just better than 10.

Well, I think I'm going to buy #3 today, unless someone has a better recommendation.

I found a link that I want to share. It could be useful to some of you:
