first off i dont know anything about the subject. but need some general direction on how to do this. i know that there are sites out there that can do sites for you. but i need some input from people who have done this before.

basically im a contractor and i want a simple site that has mostly put up before and after pictures of work ive done , so i can send potential clients to my site so they can see what ive done.

thanks.

Where are you planning to host your web site? The hosting company may have sufficiently good tools for you that are pretty easy to use - assuming you want to do this yourself and not pay somebody else, of course!

For example, I use www.1and1.com for a personal site for my family to use for their pages! Their on-line site tools are pretty decent for something to be built - even by relative novices.

If you want to get slightly more complicated (but not a whole heck of a lot), then wordpress.com might suit you better. Although this is more for personal blogging, people have built corporate web sites using their software - my work is planning a new one with it for example.

And, the wordpress.com site is free (assuming you are willing to allow the occasional ad from them), and it is pretty easy to get a dedicated domain name from them to make it more unique (since, otherwise, your site name ends with the characters "wordpress.com").

You mentioned that you do not know the subject, but what is your skill level with computers and stuff? If you have some skills in this area, then the above will be relatively painless to get going. And, the tools will give you decent, standardized, look and feel, so that it will not look amateurish.

Good luck with it!
