Just so we don't get the "why" question asked too much, the upsides of going this route are the following:
-Engine is fully built for a reliable 400hp for only $2500, delivered.
-The L28ET is a USDM engine. If I need parts, I can find them for almost nothing. If I break something, I can get it fixed cheaply and immediately.
-From what I hear, the L-series blocks share certain similarities with the KA that would make this comparitively easy.
And yes, the L28ET is the engine from the Nissan 280ZX Turbo, but the base L28 block is the same engine used in the Datsun 280Z.
My biggest question is just, would it fit? What transmission would I use, and what all custom fabrication would be involved. If there's a little, I'll seriously look into this. If there's a lot, then the cost/benefit would be outweighed and I'd go with a more proven platform.
I don't *think* there'd actually be too much, far less than there would be with, say, a VH45 or an other-OEM engine like a 2JZ.
What I need to know is an educated estimate of exactly what would be involved.
I mean, break it down this way. The engine costs $2500. Let's say we had $2500 of custom work required for the swap. That's $5000 for a rock-solid 400hp that's cheap and easy to fix. That would put this well ahead of, say, an RB swap in terms of cost/benefit to get to 400hp. It's also important to note that I don't want any more than 400hp, so the RB's ability to go above and beyond that is irrelevant to me.
