He's in for some bad news, needs more load rating.
I'll have to look up the load rating but the 90-92 LS 400 OEM tire size is 205/65VR15. Within 1/10 of an inch diameter of the 235/40-18. Nonetheless, he is more into the way a car looks (the "Bling" factor) and how much boom he can get from the trunk than a serious performance driver. So I believe that he will be ok. He got the +150,000 mile car two years ago for $4,200, and we found the new wheels and tires for $1,100. Car needed a few things (a/c compressor, sensors, etc) and he got all the work done rather cheaply. It didn't hurt that we know a moonlighting certified Lexus tech either. It looks and runs great but the VQ35 Max will kill it and he knows it.
