Is there anything I can do to it to give me a couple extra horsepower for next to nothing money wise. I have taken out my resonator, i use Z-max and lucas products. Is there anything I can do to override something limiting my engine? Anything I can disconnect of remove put in place by the factory. The car is mainly stock. I have only put a K&N filter in the intake box. Also, I want to change my suspension. Small things like swaybar links and bushings lowering springs and struts. Give me a wallet friendly brand. One more thing. My I30 is an automatic of coarse. It has just over 213000 miles on it. I want to know, does anyone know if it will be safe to change my trans fluid and filter. I dont want to ruin my trans since it has so many miles. If it is safe, wat should i put in my trans for best performance with a high milage trans?
I hate to state the obvious, but with 213K on the clock, doing any tinkering is going to lead to a new engine quickly.
The only real low-cost bolt-on horsepower are intake and exhaust. A cold-air-intake and a Y-pipe with less restrictive exhaust may, in general, bring you something like 10 horsepower and maybe +5 lb/feet of torque. Of course the car will be noisy, but it will go a bit faster.
Changing the fluid and filter is not likely to hurt anything. Keep in mind that at 200K miles you are on borrowed-time anyway, even less if this is the original fluid.
transmission fluid does two things, provides cooling and lubrication. Over time, the lubricating qualities go away, which causes more heat, and more heat breaks down the lubrication......
While it's remotely possible that changing the fluid may stir up a bunch of gunk and kill the transmission, not having fresh fluid is going to make it wear faster, which will kill the transmission.....
