Why? To accompany my WRC pictures, and I think SR71s are pure badass. I like everything about them. Its like the Alfa Romeo of the sky. It leaks s*** everywhere, its pretty fickle, but damnit, it hauls a** and there is nothing like it.

Bonus points for afterburner flare.

^pretty sure that's fake

^ Something like that, without the landing gear, and higher quality.

So does anyone know where I can find one? Google image search isn't quite cutting it :(

I like the one with the mountains. That's a strong candidate but it needs to be bigger. I'd like to print one out almost poster size, and frame it.

I really just want something that reaches out and grabs you by the nuts, you know?

If you would drag your a** out here to see us, you could go have your picture made with one.

Christine and I went to t see the museum when she came out the first time. The whole place is amazing.

Unfortunately since the 71 was pretty much retired by the time high-res digital cameras became main-stream most of what we got are scans of old film (hence that characteristic grain in all the shots). But here are a couple decent ones I found (sorry for the stupid image sizes, I didn't scan them). File size alert!!!

Also, if you like the SR-71, this is a good (fairly short) read.

The plane really is a technological marvel. If it wasn't for satellites and the fact that the planes cost $200,000 an hour (early '90s money) to operate they'd probably still be ripping up the sky.

Insane.
Evasive tactics are simply to accelerate and outrun missiles. Mach 3.5 like nothing.

They sure do! Good link.
The only thing I'd worry about is that they come in a tube :(
Typically when I order stuff from mpix, it comes in a cardboard sandwich. Can't argue with that price though. I'll probably pick one of those up and frame it.

Those mothers are huge. I also never noticed that the jet intakes were cocked inward slightly.

SR71 is the McLearen F1 of planes, and from the same time period (close enough)

You should have your garage door vinyl wrapped with an SR71.

Tell the HOA its good for crime prevention.

Personally I'd prefer "something" like Cindy Margolis (below) to reach out and grab me by the nuts. But that is one awesome aircraft.
