That's what I used to tell my customers. We actually DID sell a ~$20 halogen light though, but it went through batteries like nobody's business (6 AAs in about 2 hours). I told people it should be used as a "just get you home" type of light. It was rather big and bulky as well.

Red, let me know what your looking for with pedals. I'm working at a used bike shop at the moment, and I'm pretty sure that we have a ton of used look stuff in decent shape kicking around. And since we are throwing around pictures of bikes, here's mine.

Whoa. That's thin. Composition?

I upgraded lights again. With the guidance of Candlepower forums and Bikeforums I decided to get a Magicshine. At $85 it promises 900 lumens and comes with a lithium battery pack.

Lithium battery pack.

I use the $14 Schwinn as a low beam and as a removable flashlight to help load the bike on the car at night.

This is my $50 Princeton EOS from REI. Its actually a good bit brighter than it seems in the picture because the camera is pointing at the light on the side of the building. I used it as a high beam and it worked.

Magicshine MJ-808. Its so bright that it doesn't matter where or how the camera is pointed. Its insanely bright. I expected about 2.5 hours from the battery which is .5 hours longer than most of my evening rides. It doesn't have a flashing mode so the two other lights will stay mounted for flashers and as backup lights.

Do you ever use your bottle holder?

Good deal Jesda! Did you get the light online, or from the local shop?

Ordered it from Nova through eBay
http://stores.ebay.com/Nova-Bike-Lights

It came in a really nice jewel box with a magnetically latched lid, detailed instructions in plain English, a charger, and two rubber mounting bands to secure it to the handlebar. They say on the forums that this is comparable to some $400-$600 lights. The next major step up is the Lupine Wilma or Betty, but those cost over $1000.

I picked the one from Nova because other versions of the Magicshine had battery problems, so Nova supposedly came up with their own battery solution. Works well so far.

Yeah, and I might get a second bottle cage and put a bigger battery in it for long-distance rides.

That was my first rode bike, bought it when I was ~12 or so (about 7 years ago). It eventually got stolen but I loved it. Easily the best bike you could have for that kind of money. Currently I'm riding a Scott Speedster S with Ultegra components and a set of Crank Bros. Egg Beaters.

I also have a 12 speed Lotus Cyclone as my commuter bike (anyone remember these?).

I got a Specialized mountain-ish bike for riding to class. I really like it. I sprang for the caliper brakes and I'm not sure how much I like them. They stop very nice, but with the frequent wet and/or cold weather up here they can squeal like a sonuva b**** most days and it's a little embarrassing to be honest.

^You should be able to take that to your local shop and have them tow the pads to stop that. You can probably do it yourself, but its a lot easier when they have it on the stand.
