Im looking to spend around $5000 on a I30 from 98-2000

i just wanted to know do the i30s and the maximas share the same parts and..if so what about the 5th gen maxima and i30s like the 2000-2002 i30s are they the same part..

i would also like to know how much is maintenance on these cars? are parts difficult to find? expenses?anything i should know about?

thanks for any responses

I've got a '00 I30 which I paid $5,500 for. I haven't seen many '00's below $6,000 though around me but if you look a '98-'00 should be available in your price range.

5th gen Max's do share the same parts as the I30's aside from body(front and rear clip) and most interior parts. The drive train parts are the same though.

I've owned a '95 Maxima and my '00 I30 and both were very cheap to maintain. Parts are fairly common and the only thing i've ever had to do besides routine maintenance is oxygen sensors on my I30. Just keep up with the maintenance and it will last you for a very long time. My Maxima had 220k on it and still drove like new and my I30 has 130k on it and you would think it was a new one.

I just bought one last month with only 62k on it but at preminum $$$. Car is in very good condition inside out. Dealer had put new brake pads all round, new muffler, suspension links, set of new floor mats (from Infiniti), new wipers and the tires are like new. Car was well cleaned and detailed when it was delivered.

So far the car runs well and everything works (as far as I can tell). I have spend some $$$ on it as well on preventive maintenance, planning to keep the car for 4-5 years: New engine belt, change oil and a K&N air filter, change the transmission oil and clean the headlights (they look like new now with the haze removed).

I have also ordered a FTSB, a RSB and Tokico Illumina shocks to upgrade the suspension. The ride is good on stock suspension, but at 62k, it's better to get new shocks. The costs for the parts are very reasonable.

Hope you enjoy your new car.

2000 and 2001 I30s are pretty reliable but have a few problems that are expensive: coils,cats,o2's,MAF's coolant seal leaks coolant into iac and it shorts the ecm, motor mounts(electric), If the cats "dusted" themselves it may have scored the cylinder walls and burn oil. I35's were much better but will use a little oil.

have i30t since 61k now 162k... no major problems..... runs great . lots of power.... issues during that long mileage..... airflow sensor replaced...starter replaced...rear wheel caliper replaced... exhaust replaced, five spoke wheel tend to be very sensitive to curb or pothole hits..... havent done anything to the suspension and now need to replace under my assumption shocks struts ball bearings.... belt needs to be replaced but the tensioner is stuck and can remove.. hard to get to it... so far so good... by the way always use mobil syntetic oil and go between oil changes 15k miles.... if the stereo needs to be replaced since its very custom fit and wiring will be nice headache.....

I've had 4 maximas and never had any major components break down on me. Just regular maintenance basically.

The coolant issue can't be that common. I'm not saying that you're wrong and that it doesn't exist, but I've never seen or heard of that happening on a VQ30 engine. One other thing that is common on all A33s though is failure of the power seat motors.

As far as the original poster's question, I'd recommend looking around for a nice clean A32 (96-99) I30. An A33 in the $6000 range is likely to have huge miles on it. I've got an '01 with 82K on it now (purchased with 62K three years ago), and other than routine maintenance I've had to replace an MAF, an O2 sensor, and the power seat motor. All common issues.

Did you buy your vehicle, yet? I highly recommend I30.

I just bought 2001 I30 and a few weeks ago I bought 2001 Maxima SE.

I gotta a 99 i30 limited edition, it has 150k on it and still runs like brand new, although the a/c compressor makes a really obnoxious and cheap sounding noise, otherwise i love it. I personally like the body style of the 99 better than the 00, thats prolly a biased opinion though i got mine for 2500, worth every penny. hope i helped

p.s- havent had any major issues as far as replacing parts, my battery is the only thing that needs fixing, otherwise i have only spent $20 on maintaing it and had it for over a year

What's your definition of expensive to maintain? A high-end car could possibly run several hundred to a thousand dollars to maintain depending on its history. For example, I've spent probably $700 in the last year on my '01, and that included new brake pads, a coolant flush, and a pair of oil changes. All done by an Infiniti dealer.
