I voted yesterday. Prop C passed in Missouri.

"Missouri voters on Tuesday overwhelmingly rejected a federal mandate to purchase health insurance, rebuking President Barack Obama's administration and giving Republicans their first political victory in a national campaign to overturn the controversial health care law passed by Congress in March."

It won't do anything, but it sure felt nice.

Haha, I wasnt being sarcastic tho, democracy IS destructive to society. We are NOT a democracy, contrary to popular opinion, and current public school curriculum. :)

We are a Constitutional Federal REPUBLIC, which embodies elements of democracy. Referendums and Constitutional Amendments that are sent to the states are a perfect example of this.

But we are obviously not a direct democracy like say Switzerland (who does have a parliment though).

Said referendums are first introduced by the representative body though. So the end result may be a democratic vote, but it has already passed through the representative filter by having to be first drawn up and presented by legislature. Democracy downwind of representation is ok, but upwind would be catastrophic.

Weird that it'd be called a "political victory."

Edit: To clarify, I mean that in the sense that it accomplishes nothing, not in the way that it couldn't be seen as positive.

I wouldn't go so far to say it's not part of current public school curriculum. I learned in my high school government class that the US is not a direct democracy and that was only 6 years ago. Well, I shouldn't say that I learned it there, but it was taught.
