Let's see what the true Nissan forums have to say about this. Here's my details...

~ '86 N/A 2+2.~ 117k miles.~ Automatic conversion to Manual.

The problem:

~ The car will NOT idle. When you let car sit overnight it will start for about two seconds and then completely die. (Please see the MAF Sensor item below.)

The facts:

~ Ran codes. Got 23,31,41.~ Code 41 states that it's the temperature sensor in the FPR, BUT I do believe this would not cause a stalling problem.~ If you unplug the MAF Sensor it WILL idle, but will not throttle above approx. 2500 RPM per the normal actions of a "broken" (i.e. unplugged) MAF Sensor.~ Spark Plugs and Wires changed. (One wire on Cylinder 1 was rusted. Plugs contained oil deposits.)~ Rotor and Distributor Cap inspected and both contain "buring"/carbonization.~ TPS has been tested w/ a Voltmeter and has come back fine.~ All Vacuum Lines have been replaced as they were approx. 20 years old.~ Air intake has been checked for cracks. No leaks found.

Any other questions about things done, please ask.

My thoughts:

~ I've been told that it IS a faulty MAF Sensor even though the ECU is not throwing codes. It makes no sense that the car WILL idle w/ the MAF Sensor unplugged, but WILL NOT w/ it plugged in.~ Distibutor Cap and Rotor to be replaced... As soon as I have the money...

Anyone else throw in their opinions?

Welcome to NICO!my first guess would be the CHTS, it's kinda a pain to get to but it would casue you to just dump fuel constantly, I guess the maf, might back it off, or open the idle air circuit? worth a try

MAF. I got a clean '93 Q for $500 that had been to 4 shops (including the dealer) with no success. It had 8 new injectors and some other new parts. The MAF had already been replaced with a used one but that didn't fix it. After going through all the diagnostic stuff and tearing into it, I decided to just start swapping parts with my other Q. First part was the MAF. Fired right up and has been running great ever since. Before that, with either of the MAFs that came with the car, it would only start when cold and the throttle was held all the way open.... and then flames would shoot out the exhaust and it had no power.
