Hello fellow G owners

For a couple of weeks now I've started noticing that shifting from 1st to 2nd gear I wouldge a grinding in second gear. I thought it was the cold weather and it will go away after the car tempeture rise. However, the problem continued to happen and I decided to take for it service today. After leaving the car for service this morning I receive a call from my advisor telling me that my Trans is gone and needs to be replaced. The throw bearing was grinding and metal pieces were found all over the trans. I also found out that because of the freaking rattling that never went away my mufler will be replace completely. I have to say that I’m receiving an excellent service from My Local Dealer. I can’t complain I 'm driving a G35X as a loaner and Friday afternoon I should have my car back with a new Trans and muffler. I love my G and Infiniti Service

Glad yours was done under warranty.

My synchros failed at 70K miles, so it's trans relpacement time here as well.

Keep us posted on how it turns out!

Bummer dude. All I can say is if the transmission doesnt feel right or makes any kind of sound when you get it back take it back to them right away!!!!

When a transmission fails on our cars they send the core back to japan and in turn we get one back. Of course these are rebuilt trans that have failed before(rebuilt at factory). Please just be very thurough with the trans after. Do a personal feel inspection. If it is a cluncky shift from 1-2 again at all take it back.

I just let you know this because I have a 2003 G35 Coupe and went through 2 stock trans before I just built it up(yes the built one is #3). I told the dealer there was something wrong with the one they put back in and they told me it was just being broke in. Trans dont have a break in time of more than 200 miles if at all. The second one went out at 10100 after they instaled the last one. They only have a 10000 mile warrenty. If this is the case please be persistant that something is wrong and get them to fix it.

Just check it and be happy with the result if the job was correct.

Mine did the exact same thing! It was also making a whistle sound. The dealer replaced it and put in an aftermarket clutch/flywheel. Well aftermarket flywheels amplify the transmission gear noise (the infamous rattle) so they put in another trans...after that one made the same rattle, they came to the conclusion that it was because of the aftermarket parts.

My transmission now works great. The clutch grips like crazy...but the rattle is annoying.

There are very few complaints of the FS6R31A in the 37. With some of the early 07 sedans there was a concentric slave recall, that effected operation. However that does not apply to a G37.

Good Luck with the replacement.

The FS6R31A and it's predecessors are all NEW units, they do not reman manuals. They are so cheap that it's more cost efficient to replace everything with new. Autos are sent back to be rebuild by a Jatco certified facility that handles all of their USDM units.

Replacing the dual mass flywheel with a single will always cause noise and driveline harshness.

Well, its Friday and I just received a call that my car will not be ready until Monday. I'm becoming more impatient since I don't have my car for 3 days now. I'll let you guys know what happens at the end.

Does the rebuild add weight to the car?
