Well, the day has finally arrived. I hit 30,000 miles onmy way to work this morning. I've had the car about 17 months. That is about 1,700 miles a month. Alot of very enjoyable miles and many more to come.

I've had no real problems with the car. New brake pads front and back and 3,000 miles oil changes is about all the maintance I've had to do. I need new rear tires and new front brake pads again as well. I'm taking the car in next week for it's 30,000 mile maintanance checkup and to get the new tires and brake pads.

By the way, I've been getting close to 23 miles per gallon. I reset at 5,000 mile intervals and the mileage has been getting better with each reset. My first 5,000 I got about 18 and graduallyit has gone up to 23 with my most recent reset. I never would have thought I would be getting 23mpg with this car.

Anyway, I just thought I would share the milestone.

Congratulations on having gone so long without any major problems and may this trend continue in the future. My question might seem silly but what do you mean by "reseting"? How do you do it? I am getting 17-18 miles per gallon with 04 6 MT.Also, I am getting ready for my first oil change and will probably do it at 3000 instead of 3750. I currently have 2700 and was wondering whether 3000 miles would be a good interval in general which will also mean that I will not be following what the manual says: 3750, 7500, 11250 etc.Somebody told me to use Mobil 1 and change my oil at 7500 intervals. Is that ok? I am quite confused as everybody gives very different information and bottom line is that I would like to provide my car with the best care possible.I would appreciate your expert oppinion.Thank you.

When I talk of resetting, I am talking about resetting the tracking of my gas mileage on the system where all that data is stored. I reset it and gauge my mpg every 5,000 miles to see if my mpg is getting better or worse. I have steady increase since I got the car. It saves all the info in a graph for easy viewing later.

Thank you, Rydwhite for explaining the reseting procedure.

There are a number of posts regarding oil changes in this and the Infiniti General forum. Please do a search off these forums - particularly for posts by Fred (palmerwmd)!

In general, I would advise against going to a 7500 mile change schedule, even with Mobil 1. This is, however, a religious topic, so beware the flames! :D

My philosophy is: oil changes are cheap insurance relative to the cost of an engine in the long run.

Not that the Mobil 1 won't probably remain close to usuable spec at 7,500 just that the filter is small and cannot filter for 7,500 miles..........the under 10 micron sized particles which need to be removed.

The 5 quart sump is smallish for the amount of power that can be produced.

Lot's depends on how long you want the engine to last and maintain as new power.

The paint is holding up well regarding sun damage and fading. no signs yet of anything like that. However, I do have a dozen rock chips on the hood and various other parts of the car that are really annoying. I was going to go to a body shop and see what they could without having to repaint the hood, but money is a little tight here now, so that'll have for another time.

Wow, you have your original tires? My rear tires lasted 15,000 miles and I don't leave any rubber on the pavement. I have 21,000 miles and still getting 19-20 mpg. I have only replaced brake pads and changed oil. Don't feel bad about the chips, mine has about 10 chips and some with little dents.

Yeah, I feel pretty lucky getting 30,000 out of the rears. But, keep in mind that I do have the 17's, so they wear much better than the Pilots that are on the 18's.

As to mileage in 266,000 miles miles my 4.5 liter 1990 Q has averaged just over 19.1 MPG [keep precise purchase records] that jives perfectly with what I would expect for the G35 ~~ 22-23 mpg.

3.5/4.5=1.2857 x correction for higher diff gearing at cruise 0.9= 1.157 x 19.1= 22.01 mpg blended average over many miles/types of driving.

Displacement is the key to estimating mileage since the cubes have to be fed even at idle.

Thanks for the explanation.

It seems like many people are getting mid teen mileage and complaining. I guess they drive the piss out of the car and don't think that that will affect their mileage. I make sure I get the full use of the car, but I don't sit there and floor it everytime the light turns green. Just averaging daily driving habits mixed with some hard driving for added fun and everyone should get the kind of mileage I am getting.

Congrats on the 30k mark Ryan! You're right, racing from stoplight to stoplight only means you're racing for the nearest gas station.

Congrats Ryan!! Interestingly enough since you first posted regarding the gas milege question that others were getting, I found that I was averaging a bit less than 20mpg. I just hit 7200 on my G and I find that the milege is getting slightly better. I'm hoping that as time goes on, I can get milege like you have been getting.

Best of luck!!

40k miles here, getting ready for the second new set of tires, just bought my second set of OEM rear pads (fronts are still good), and on my third transmission.

other than that, doing fine, 26mpg highway and 20 mpg city.

How long have you had the car vq? I take that you finally have all of the transmission problems worked out now.
