The Stillen axle back and dig the sound. two questions; What is the resonator for? Stop my car from sounding like a fart can? Can I cut the bastard off and sound better? Chime in or relocate my post at your leisure.

You are in Cali so I would leave it as it is and hope you don't get raped by the CARB Gestapo on a daily basis....

Do you actually have a sound clip of the Stillen axle back? I was looking to getting the axel back set up and go with a straight pipe to the cat as the Stillen cat-back seems to include a resonator. But if the axle back sounds nice, I would def be interested and thanks in advance.

At first I really liked it (I have the 2.5) Then it got kinda quiet for a while, and after about 2-3,000 miles it really made a difference after it broke in. I love it, just wish it were a little louder. It sounds best between 2-3,500rpms. I say go for it! I talked to Kyle @ Stillen about the full cat-back vs. the axle-back. He said there would be little to no sound diff between the two so I bought the cheaper one. Again, I really like the sound I would just like it a bit louder. That is why I posted this thread about cutting out the resonator. I want to do something to make it louder.

The resonator is not for emissions reduction so it shouldn't be an issue for CARB inspection unless they don't allow modification to the exhaust at all, in which case OP already violates that by having the Stillen exhaust. Removing the resonator will make it louder so you will have to consider failing inspection for noise. On the other hand it may also be raspy or drone though.
