Your cats could be clogged. When I had mine removed, one was starting to deteriorate and the other one, the insides were all the way gone.Steady C wrote:I have taken as good of care as i can of my 1995 J30t. That being said heres my question/problem. I have had an on going problem with an extremely loud rattle in the cat. On my way to work today when i would hit the gas pedal my car would not go anywhere and would slow down dead in its tracks. if I pushed it the car would shift and strain but i wouldn't go much faster. My guess was maybe because of the cat im losing back pressure in the exhaust but im not expert. unfortunately the only mechanic i trust is 600 miles away and i dont think it would be good to drive it that far in this state. Any commments are appreciated. who else to ask but the j30 experts
Dude, do what was suggested right above you post. Find 2 cheap hi-flow cats (about $50 each) and take them to a muffle shop that will install them for about $50. If that muffler shop won't do it, just go to another. Someone will do it and someone will do it for about $50.Steady C wrote:Ok well i got some estimates the smallest being $850 so im not willing to put anymore money into this car. I wil post it in the for sale section with pics. I love this car its gonna be hard to let it go.
If you have them hollowed out your car will sound like crap. Been there done that.RZAA36 wrote:The cats at my dealer are over 1,000 each, i would look online they have aftermarket cats for a real good price, you need to find a shop that can do it for cheaper than 850.00 that is crazy, just have a shop blow them out and drive with no cats, That is if you have no Emmison test, here in Florida we don't have any test so you can do whatever. keep looking online, it is not worth selling the car over this little problem.
