Well, I never was really feeling the black fog light covers and in the fall of 2011 they did not even sell a set of 2009 OEM fog lights anywhere. I search far and wide on the internet and even went to my local Nissan Dealership and they couldn't help me either. You would think that a vehicle that was only 2 years old would have fog light options somewhere in the Nissan Universe.

Frustrated, I just cut out some side mirror inserts and used 3M tape to create my fake fog lights. If you do not really look at them, they were alright. OK....maybe not....the problem was it also looked cheesy but it was a step better than the black covers.

But today I can finally get rid of the mirror inserts!!!!
First and foremost, I would like to thank fellow forum member Leo for sending me his previous Rogue's fog lamps.

I still call these my fake fog lights because I am not planning to wire these, I just want to look like I have fog lights and not having to use the black covers.

Fake fog lights.

Fake fog light on the left (Black cover w/mirror insert) and OEM fog light w/no bulb on the right.

Since I had no fog light brackets, I had to zip tie them in any which way. They are not even in the right position and I hope it don't slip out the side hole since it has a cut on it's opening.
Image
Here is the zip tie for the left fog light. I hope they stay still and won't shift which would look unpleasant. :ohno:
Image
My fake fog lights. They look more realistic don't you think? :mike

Another view.

Now my fog lights can actually pass for some real fog lights, even though I don't have bulbs in there. If you don't stare too hard they look great! :bigthumb:

You should put a bulb in there so moisture and dirt doesn't get behind the lens and become visible (and near impossible to clean out) :)

Maybe you need glasses perhaps, but I was a step ahead of you on that one. :bash:

Check last picture and time stamp up above. :nutkick

It was just a trial run on what I liked. Only been on less than a couple of weeks actually. Really only 2 were there which was the Blue USA emblem and the Flag. Yes I kinda went overboard on the grill badges and sticking stuff up but I already removed them before your comment actually. :fruit:

The problem with the Rogue is that they all look the same. I beg to differ, how many strangers have talked to you about your Rogue. Your Rogue would love all the attention she would get if I was her owner. I get compliments at least once a month on my Rogue and many double takes and walk overs in the parking lot. If people give alot of attention to your Rogue, do people tell you? Not just friends or family. :poke: My Rogue gets alot of attention and praises, how is that unlucky with me? :naughty: What woman does not want to be the center of attention rather be left in the corner lonely with nobody to talk too. I actually think my Rogue is a he anyways, it use to be a mommy mobile.

I removed the Cross and the St. Christopher medallion or whatever it was. He represents the patron saint of travel. (For safe travel)

I kept the Bronze bowing soldier as a tribute for the men and women fighting for freedom around the world.

Nice rogue Casper, how did you attach the bull bar? I've read most of the attachments are in all in a weak spot in front of the car

Since I joined this forum, it seems people are not really into bullbars. Understandable, fearing the damage in slow moving accidents.

I speak from only my experience, to make a long story short. A person slammed on their brakes right after passing a green light at an intersection ( personally I felt they were an intentional brake scammer for insurance fraud) while in front of a Lexus IS350 which was only 6 months old with an elderly guy in it. The elderly guy was able to stop but I hit his Lexus. The elderly guy didn't blame me and the cop never gave me a ticket, but of course it was my fault. The brake slammer fled after the Lexus hit me of course.

Who would think that going through a green, I would have to slam my brakes after passing under the green light literally. :bs:

So the point I am trying to make was my bullbar was smashed during that 10-15 mph hit I presumed. Bumper had some scratches and 2 holes from the bar, I don't know if it prevented any further damage or decreased it. Nothing under the car was bent or damaged. The Lexus had a few scratches and holes Since our bumpers was plastic all they had to do was heat it up to repair the holes.
Image
Before accident. My bumper protector license frame for parking couldn't help me here, but I wonder if it helped absorbed the collision. It was bent badly too.
Image
Image
After accident, but as you can see, I am good as new and the Rogue is stronger as ever. No less for wear.

I also know that I did not really tighten the bullbar as good as I could at that time because I only had certain tools so the bullbar had some give so when it struck the lexus, it went up to absorb some impact. Still I do not know if that helped.

If I tighten it to the max, and it stood it's ground, perhaps it would have pushed harder into my engine compartment? Who knows.

But anyways, the bull bar is attached to very long radiator bolts and another anchor where it is screwed to some engine mount inside (smaller screw) There are 2 nice size solid brackets in my case at least.

So is this a weak spot? I am not an expert, but personally it's strong enough for my taste. I tighten it enough where you will absolutely not be able to budge it. If you grab the bullbar you can shake the Rogue as a whole. It's going no where.

I also made a U-turn once and misjudged a curb and hit a corner of my bullbar. I really thought I damaged the right front end because it made a loud crash like I dented my car. Scared the passengers. But I only found a chip on the bottom of bullbar ( not the curved part) which was really nothing and I fixed it with some malleable welding stuff.

I hit a bank of grass, of course nothing happened. :chuckle:

Never really hit the bullbar on anything 99% of time. Just be careful of steep driveways and curbs which I do with normal cars anyways. I have good clearance really. Almost close to a normal sedan. I measured it in the past and is somewhere on this forum.

I reordered another bullbar and paid for it myself. Really not that expensive. I like the blue sticker since it matches my Rogue. :dblthumb:

If your on the fence on it, I would recommend a bullbar for looks and preventing damage in parking lots. I have never been hit on the front in a parking lot ever since. If you don't like the looks, then pass on it.

Just my experience. :grouphug:

It's not a bad idea to have one to prevent damage on parking lots, but if that's the case I'd be good having one to protect the back bumper... I've seen how lots of drivers don't care about others people's cars on parking lots, that's why I always try to park as far away as possible to prevent that.

You remind me of the guy in Office space with the 52 pieces of flare! Wow! Seems like that Rogue is trying hard to look like a CJ 7. This poor thing is meant for on street driving, and going to soccer matches. It's almost like you are trying to hide that behind all the lights, and grills and boards. Then you decide not to hook up the only extra lights that are allowed to be used on the streets? Weird.

Definitely a unique ride for sure. Not my cup 'o tea but as long as you like it, that's all that matters.

I admit I am frontin. Thanks for the CJ7 compliment. That was the goal actually. I was hoping to find my inner off-road. :dblthumb: The objective in the beginning was to make my cute cuv look tough. I actually googled that on how to make suv look tough. :rotfl
I guess it worked.
The difference is I still get way over 400 miles to a tank on a long day trip and once had 31.7-31.8 mpg average on the trip computer ONCE! You won't get that on a CJ7.

Actually, I wanted legit OEM foglights, but they no longer sell them 2 years later as a whole set that includes everything after my bullbar accident. I wanted street legal.

Frustrated I initially got the Bling fog lights but I did not want to have to remove the bumper and did not trust the brackets. So I exchanged them for the driving lights you see on my bullbar.

Even though they are 100 watt driving lights. I have never been stopped by the cops here. I drive by them as they exit a neighborhood or I drive right behind them. I never been stopped plus I placed the amber covers which reduces the light intensity a tad more.

It's aimed at the road too.

Even if I hooked up the NIssan foglights, they not even attached with brackets and I am kinda tired of people opening anymore compartments to add more stuff. I have enough gadgets and I don't want anything messed up when everything is perfect already.

In summery, I do use the driving lights on the bullbar alot. Never been stopped for having them on. Even with cops around. I guess they assume they are legal fog lights/aux lights. We are allowed 4 lights maximum on. And usually the OEM foglights HAVE to be on with the headlights. I really prefer my lights on the bullbar on instead of the OEM foglights if I had a choice anyways. I don't look like every Rogue out there with the normal OEM foglight/headlight configuration. Nice to be different. :mike

Looks like the parts are still made and for sale, just need to buy the parts individually right?

'09 factory fog light parts: http://www.nissanpartszone.com/Page_Pro ... entsNo=263

How do you get such good mileage? We get 21mpg. Actually very disapointed with it. My Element gets better and has the same size engine but give a giant middle finger to aerodynamics.

Yah, I was hoping to avoid that route. Getting replacement parts since they usually gouge you up the yang when you buy individually.

I was searching for a cheaper alternative. :)

I finally ended up with the driving lights that cost less than $50. The roof lightbar was only $91.

Those 2 alone are cheaper than 1 OEM foglight. Not including the brackets, bulbs, new switch (etc). Personally it won't be cost effective to me. I don't mind if they sold a set for around $200 on eBay like they normally do now on the newer models, but I prefer not to be gouged on a 2 year old car at the time. It SHOULD have been a buying option you would think! :bs:

I usually get 350 miles to a tank in the city. I don't drive like a demon such as racing past cars to only hit the red light up ahead. I coast to stop lights when possible. Light foot on the pedal, so on and so forth. :woot:

Not Sunday driving but efficient driving you might say. :badger

Looks good but I forgot to include the brackets. For anyone who's doing independent installation on fog lights or any other lighting I found a perfect switch with led which I have received today. Not connected yet but fits like oem. I can make a picture of it tomorrow. Here's the link:

Awesome! I see that it comes in different LED colors including Amber, to match the Amber colors inside the Rogue. Leo, after installation pictures would be appreciated...

Something is definitely is shorting the circuit. After turning the key all the lights on speedo are lighting up and go away in a sec or two. If I try to lock or unlock the car all the lights such as dome lights, high beam etc start flashing constantly until i push a different button. Transmission knob doesn't shift until I put a screwdriver in that hole next to it but if i try to start up the car from neutral same story repeats. I had no gas after the work so I stopped by at gas station, pumped the whole tank and I'm stuck right next to the pump.

After a minor car accident, I said to myself....what the heck, lets add some accessories that involve electrical components. Usually, I do not let anybody touch the car when it is new and perfect, but after getting in an accident, it was mod's away for the Rogue internals. External accessories involving no wiring, I can handle.

Personally speaking for myself, I would never take the challenge of doing any electrical work fearing I would mess something up. :ohno:

Do you think a wire you installed got dirty and the sealed element opened a bit or perhaps a wire frayed by rubbing against something sharp causing a short.

That's why when I asked the shop to do my wiring, to make it tight as a tank and specified they shrink-wrap the end with a heat gun, water proof tape ( which I brought to them), cover with wire loom (brought a size I liked to them), etc.

Because I was paranoid about something that would blow or short circuit.

I don't know if they did all that I asked, but all seems well. :)

One time my pioneer screen didn't turn on and my heart sank. But I restarted the engine and it never did that again. A one time fluke I hope. :yesnod

Electrical work scares me. I did install a radio in a geo prism once, but I try to avoid all wire work if possible.

By the way Leo, thanks again for the foggys.
Once I have extra cash, I will find some cheap bulbs to finish the look. :rotfl

Ps- I removed all the all decorations on my grill except the circular USA blue badge. Cleaned it up a bit.

Np Casper. I got a car back today. Dealership not 100% sure but seems like I got a corrosion on battery terminals which shorted a fuse on ignition and ECU. They replaced the terminals and 2 fuses so after that it seems fine now. The whole charge was $33 for terminals and $158 for the labor
