So I got my front brake rotors turned a couple of months back(Z32 conversion) and the dealer convinced me I didn't need to get new pads cause I had 70% left on them. Against my better judgement I didn't get new pads. Now I feel the same shaky wheel returning again. Is it because the already uneven wear on the pads caused the rotors to wear unevenly again? The one time the dealer tries NOT to screw me, it ends up happening anyway. I also read that Z32 rotors are to be turned on the car but the dealer says he would prefer not to do it that way. WTF?

yes your rotors are very sensitive to distortion. the pads really wouldnt have been much of an issue as long as they werent glazed. Yes the maufacturer does recommend turning them on the car. as a matter of fact nissan recomends machining rotors on the car for most of their product line. The reality is this either the dealer is not stepping up to the good on car brake lathes so the techs arent using them since they are so time consuming to hook up or the tech lacks the knowledge on how to use it. The on car brake lathe is a manditory tool for all nissan dealers. the problem is the equipment doesnt have to work it just has to be there when they inspect the dealers tool inventory. We do not have an on car brake lathe in our shop but since we own the chrysler dealership next door whenever we absolulty need to use it we borrow it from them. But we do alot of brake jobs and have a very pressing schedule so we dont use it alot. I will be using it tomorrow though on your car since we did a complete brake job back in jan. then in april it returned due to shimmy when braking. so the rotors were machined by another tech and the pads were reused since there was plenty left. This time I am doing them and told them since this seems to be reoccuring we need to use the on car brake lathe. to be honest though I wish we had this thing in our shop I would much rather use it then the bench lathe. It is very trick and does an awesome job on the rotors.

Another thing that can cause rotor warpage is improperly torqueing lug nuts.

i'm sorry, i'm not familiar with turning the rotors. when you replace rotors, you must have the turned (like, aligned?) by the dealer? also, what are the recommended torque specs on lug nuts.
