Ok, I am driving today just chilling and I stop at a light leaving campus and I thought the car in front of me was a Saturn Ion. I take a second look and notice its a redline! That supercharged concept version. I was thinking wtf to myself. I didn't know they were out yet? The car had no plates, not even temp dealer ones. But it sure was it alright. You guys might call bs, but It was a Redline.

For anyone who cares, the guy goes to UC, Riverside. Thats where I saw him at.

It's... well...

damn, it's ugly.

It looks like they tried too hard to make it appeal to the ricer crowd. The wing's too big and those lines on the front just don't flow. 200hp, I'm not complaining, but it's still a friggin Saturn.

yeah, that front and the wing just dont go with the car. hell, the car just doesnt have good design lines. and its got the same offensive wheel gap as the 240s.

2.2l Ecotec. A crap engine no matter what you bolt onto it. That is the number one issue that I have with the Opel Speedster/Vauxhall 220.

Broke the land-speed record for the 1.2-2.0 liter class, I believe (or a moderately tuned one, anyway).

It's in the new SCC, which is full of Suprarice. But, a 350Z wins the Ultimate Street Car Challenge, so it all evens out.

i thought that engine in the redline for the worldspeed challenge was heavily modified. like the only thing stock was the block, and it even had stuff done to it.

"By the end of 2001 they were producing 850 and 900 hp and still using the stock block, stock timing chain, reground stock cams and stock cam drive gears..."

So easy to bash because its a saturn. I admit to loosing to my dad in his 3 liter V6 saturn sedan. I also wish my car had plastic body panels, dents suck.

Thats the kinda car I wouldn't mind my girlfriend driving :) I have a feeling it'll be pretty reliable too, I haven't heard any big problems with those ecotec motors.

well, i do know the engine itself, although block being stock and other aformentioned stuff, was far from stock. new head and a bigass turbo and other stuff isnt close to stock and just bolt on upgrades. oh well, im sure they could do that to a Z with stuff you can prolly buy over the counter.

Is there such thing as a 2 liter motor that doesnt need rediculous amounts of work to get 850+ hp?

I like the ecotec motor, its a step in the right direction. Its built with expandability in mind, something not many motors have going for them.

thats true. its like the SR of its time. too bad nissan didnt continue the idea. hell, too bad companies in general arent doing this. i mean, if you ordered a chevelle SS back in 1970, you could order all kinds of motors. now, car companies just have one or two for a car. and most have no kinds of aftermarket support. the ecotec really does a good job of this.

Are you sure it was an actual redline? They aren't supposed to be out untill April, and Saturn is notorious for pushing back release times.

And the 2.2L ecotec isn't so bad of an engine. gets ok mileage and has decent power for an a to b type car. Last I looked it didn't have an EGR valve. Kinda neat for a new engine I think.
