Ok, so let me preface my post here by saying that I am not looking to acquire a skyline for myself anytime soon.

I have been a member of NICO for quite some time now, and it seems that most of the different automobile specific forums are pretty on point, with well documented tech support and a decent group of posters and great moderators..with the exception of one....the skyline forum ( im not bashing the members or the staff, this is directed to the content of the forum)

What I have seen for the most part is a thousand threads on someone being scammed by an importer, or their car being seized by the government for illegal importation, or the ubiquitous how can I get my zomg JDM skyline. Not much in the way of DOING something about the situation in which we are currently constrained.

I propose that we as a community of automotive enthusiasts with a common interest appeal to the powers that be to allow some form of importation of foreign vehicles.

I see this being a positive influence on our country for many reasons.1. This would create jobs in the effect of having legal importers, as well as revenue for the government (federal or state) for said associated costs by the consumer.2. It would boost the economy by sales of aftermarket parts for said vehicles.3. The vehicles can be taxed as luxury and would be income for the government yet again.

Im sure there are a thousand other reasons, and Ill leave them for you all to decide what they are when you write your congressman/congresswoman.

The economic climate win which we live is the perfect time for changes such as these to occur, and there is certainly strength in numbers and facts. People are doing outrageous things to get these cars, if we present that to our governing bodies they might see an opportunity. Politicians love to make a name for themselves.

Also, if we can legalize this, government spending can be reduced by eliminating the need to have so many agencies working to keep these vehicles out and can be spent fighting crime, or just saved altogether.

Hell, we could probably get Japan to help pay for export, they have needs to get these vehicles out, thats how we get front clips.

I know I am talking big, but really Ive never seen anyone take a stand. This country was founded on people doing what they believed in. We should stand up for what we believe in.

My point of this post is not to carry the torch into washington, but to light the fire initially. we alone cannot do anything, but together we can do so much.

Feel free to flame or mock. I believe we have the power to change. Also feel free to spread the word, or write a letter, and just tell them how you feel, and why you think it would be a good idea.

Strength in numbers. We are a large group of people with a lot of influence in this.

By the time this happened most of these cars would be 25 years old and thus pointless to need to change the import laws.

Well I for one am going to try to do something. Why not change the laws? Thats how they got to be there in the first place?

Well I propose that if no one cares to do anything, then all "how do I get a skyline/other imported car" threads be deleted, cause heres your chance, and if no one wants to take it, then STFU. No one wants to hear crying cause you cant get what you want handed to you.

People need to work for what they want.

Valid point to bring up but just a day late and a dollar short here, it's already been addressed and pointed out that the Skyline community of SOUSA is in the process of doing just that but first things first, Kaizo.

http://www.legalizeimports.com/ is the stepping stone for now.

The main reason why nothing occurs here on NICO is because 90% of the posters in the Skyline section simply don't own and never have owned a Skyline in the U.S. or anywhere else. Most people only post here when they want to chime in on legal-eagle debates.

My only hope was to get some people who would otherwise just cry about it to actually do something, but in hindsight Im thinking that people who would be up to doing anything probably already have.

At least its good to know Im not alone in my thinking.

What would be nice is to get it done on a state level, then take it federal. I believe it would be easier to do that way.

There was a state case that was later in favor of the owner, I think it was NM or AZ in regards to the emissions and legality of the vehicle on a kit car basis. The owner provided receipts for all parts aquired over a period of time during the reconstruction and it proved to be a good thing.
