I was on the interstate the other night doing about 80-90.. had the radio up pretty loud.. all of a sudden I started to slow down even though I was giving it the same amount of throttle. I turned the radio off and I heard what sounded like marbles bouncing around in my engine. I thought I had blown the engine.. slung a rod or something? I dunno

luckily I was less than a mile from my exit so I creeped it home going 30mph.

it still starts up and runs but won't idle real well and sounds like a diesel.

I'm just wondering if this is what happens when the timing chain jumps a few teeth??

miles on engine? Ever replaced timing chain? I'd check compression, then timing.

Could be low on oil, my 240 does that whenever I get low on oil...but it started doing it 5x worse (im hoping due to stripped rocker arm bolts...not by me...previous owner, i just got to see it yesterday )

If it sounds like marbles bouncing around then its detonation/pre-ignition.

Either its running lean or your timing is off causing it to ignite too early.

I'd take a gander down the front of the motor for bits of chain guides and such.

I hear its HIGHLY and i mean HIGHLY unlikely for KA24'S to jump time if they are in any reasonable condition...There would have to be so much slack you are likely to saw through the valve cover or snap a journal before it would skip teeth...but its not impossible i guess.

I would consider bent/broken or cruddy valves, my car ran like you discribed when it had a bad exhaust valve on one cylinder...have a compression test done if everyones other advice checks out.

its got about 127K. I bought the car about 2 months ago for $2500 it was a LS1 swap project but I was going to use it to drive back and forth to work for a few months until I gathered more parts... the thing got 29mpg all day long way better than my tacoma.

it has a small oil leak from the oil pan... but I always kept oil in it. It also had a small 'marble in the can sound' coming from the timing chain area but I believe those were the guides making noise like all KA's do..

dunno.. it just all of a sudden lost power... won't idle and there is def. something rolling around loose in the engine. I had been at about 4,000-5000rpm for a few minutes when it happened. very well might be in the valvetrain? could have dropped a valve and thats making it run funky

not a real big problem.. just need enough juice to pull it on the trailer I suppose... ugh
