i think my ignition coils dead. structured lent me his spare distributor and it sparked the first time i put it on, but the timing was waay off so it wouldn't start. when i fixed the timing issue, the car had no spark all of hte sudden. so i'm wondering how do i convert to a external coil? i remember RED-KAT had a thread about doing that as well but i tried using hte search button and i scrolled back 15 pages, and the thread seems to have disappeared. anyone can link me to it? or if its not too much trouble explain what needs to be done?

It never worked for him, he ended up going back to the S14 dizzy. I was hoping he'd do it so I could copy...lol.

Its been done... But I failed. I dont know which part of my install went bad... The Wiring? the Power Transducer? The S13 Distrubitor itself?

I'll try again later... Right now I need my car to work.

well maybe you guys can help me trouble shoot them. my car stalled and i wasn't getting any spark. i went and borrowed structure240's spare distributor. when i installed his, i was getting spark, but my timing was 360 degrees off. it lined up the marks on the distributor but instead of @ #1 TDC it was at #4 TDC. then i started raining and i couldn't continue. the next day i opend up the valve cover, re timined the distributor with the cam lobes @ cylinder #1 facing away from each other like this < > then i put the distributor back in, and then the car still wont' start!! i pulled two plug wires off and grounded them to a spark plug that didn't work, then i grounded it to a screw driver, i still wasn't getting any spark.

you think structure's distributor went back on me? or do you think a wire on the connector broke somewhere? the condition of them wasn't great. the insulator was wripped and it was showing bare wire, but from the way it looks, it never broke. or do you think its a bad ECU?

really that would be 180 degrees off since 360 is a full circle back where you started

if you try to just go by how the cams look its going to be off. if anything put a long screwdriver in #1 and watch it as you set TDC with the marks on the crank pulley

structure your mistaken becasue a full rotation for the cycle is 720 degrees on the crank shaft for a 4 stroke cycle. remember when i called you and asked for help, i took the cap off with timing marks set at TDC, my rotor was aimed at cylinder #4. that was the reason, and with the rotor pointed at #4, i took the distributor off, and i aimed it at #1. so that threw my timing off. but it doesn't matter now because the main problem is me not gettin a spark. any clue guys?

edit: here is where i found out that my timing was probrably off 360 degrees, i completely forgot that the crank moves 720 degrees for a 4 stroke, while the cam shafts rotate at half speed at 360 degrees per 4 stroke cycle.
