alright guys, my struts are completely blown and my car rides like s***. bumps are just horrible, i think i am going to die at some points. the car bobs quite a bit and going fast on highway ramps i have to watch out for bumps otherwise my car will go out of control. this is freakn annoying, plus my car isnt low enough. so i think its time to upgrade. my question is will coilovers actually improve the ride quality comfort wise. I know going from a working shock/strut combo the coilovers will be much more unpleasant. But what about from a blown strut/spring combo to coilovers. I've only ridden in one other 240sx which had working shocks and I don't remember it riding so harsh like mine. This would be great if the coilovers would actually soak up more bumps because I wouldnt mind putting the money into my car for that. Being 16 my parents think its ridiculous for me to buy them strictly for looks and cornering capabilities. So this would help out alot. thanks guys

It really depends what dampening you are at, all the way to the soft side is good for daily driving, especially if there is many potholes or bumps on the road. All the way to the hardest setting, one medium pothole going at about 40mph and bye bye coilover!

as for performance, you do corner like you are on rails and better stopping and launching

simply put, ride quality will be more consistent, but will NOT ride "softly".

the smoothest coils ive ever experienced were some basic tanabes (not even adjustable height other than spring perch) with 6/6k springs. rode better than ANY s chassis with ANY suspension ive ever felt.

but due to single adjustability... they dont SLAM the car at all really.

also, if you are going to go "coilover low" you MUST, repeat, dont disregard, MUST get RUCAS to at least somewhat compensate for rear camber. ideally, you get RUCAS and rear Toe Rods to give your your adjustability back into spec.

also, get a GOOD alignment after the install. trust me. non negotiable.

ive heard great things about fortune auto coils for a daily.

i run PSM but they are quite aggressive so i wouldnt recommend them to someone looking for comfort....

thanks mrgreeneyes. basically I'm just looking for some soft-medium ones. Honestly I love the way my car turns just with megan lowering springs so I don't even have real high hopes. I would just rather have a semi uncomfortable ride.

I have (had) the Tanabe ones that mrgreeneyes was talking about, they handled extremely well but weren't good for lowering. At full low I still had about a 2 finger gap up front and a 1 finger gap in the rear (195/50/r16 tires). Now I have cusco coilovers up front and my fender gap is gone, and I modified the rear Tanabe ones so the gap is gone there as well.

Fortune Auto coilovers are great. I've ridden in an s13 with them and it handled extremely well, and when we put them to soft they felt firm but not harsh. I highly recommend them.

Do your research. You definitely don't want to get coils, than regret them. They're a pretty decent sized investment into your vehicle.

coilovers aren't as bad as homeboy above me makes them out to be.

Honestly, you should make your judgement based on actual ride alongs instead of forum posts.

My definition of comfort could mean your worst nightmare...

I don't see how you do it with your car in Socal Adrian.

I've seen your car in person, it's low as s***!

But yeah, some coils are more comfortable than others. Choose wisely.

I've heard great things about stance lx's, which is why I ordered some. Apparently they're backordered, I ordered them at the beginning of January. I've never ridden in a car with coilovers so I've never experienced truly harsh ones

I heard pbm makes really soft coilovers But really, I think if you go low enough with any coilover it will be somewhat a harsher ride than blown struts which I had 3 of on my old bimmer and it still handled alright for something that weighed near close to a garbage truck. Anyways, with nice stance comes a price and some sacrifices. Bumpy a** ride with awesomeness>soft ride without awesomeness.

lol... its called selective driving. I just stay away from the 101 freeway, the 5 freeway (at least in LA area, OC is ok), 110, and the 91.

Everything else is smooooth sailing, lol :p

Wow... the R-tunes... don't those have like, 0 adjustibility? I hope you were looking for a really basic coilover, cause otherwise. don't expect too much...
