I think I need a new transmission....

The first gear on my transmission went out, I was wondering how hard it would be to replace the transmission without taking the engine out, I was planning on doing a SR20DET swap, but that's not going to be for a few month.. I was also wondering if the SR20DET uses the same transmission as the KA24DE... Someone told me that they are the same.. And should bolt on? Hmm.... I don't know.. Help..

i do not think they are the same. but I'll give you the bump in hopes that some one can help.

Never done a 5-speed, but the auto came out pretty easlily without removing the engine. Just make sure you can get your car up high enough to clear the transmission when you pull it out.
