So, the other day I was being lazy and I didn't feel like going through all of the trouble to take off my oil pan to drill a hole for my oil drain bung. So I decided to drill it while it was still on the car. I covered the drill bit in vasoline and it caught alot of the metal shavings. The only thing is, I think I might have gone in too far in knicked up my crankshaft. Is that possible?

Please someone tell me it's not because I'm really freaked out.

not really possible since the crank doesn't go too far into the oil pan you may have just hit a baffle

I agree with ^^ i doubt you hit your crank, unless you stuck the whole drill bit in the hole you drilled and moved it around. You probably just hit a baffle or the pickup. If you did hit the crank bad enough to throw it way out of balance you would know. But why wouldnt you just drain the oil and drop the pan? there is no way you didnt get metal shavings in your oil. I would suggest you drain your oil. just me though.

wards rite....your running the risk..of oil with debris getting into your bearings for your turbo...you really need to drop the pan after draining the oil and clean it up compleatly with a steam cleaner..allso change the oil filter while your there...never rush sumpin like this that is so critical..oil is the blood of your ride man...screw with that and you will kill the engine...for good!..

hope this gives you some insight.

Thanks everyone! I only stuck the drill bit like 2" in there. I just wasn't sure how low the crankshaft was. What I did was drill it while the oil was still in there, then I drained all of the oil out. When I start it up today( for the first time) I'm going to let it idle for a few minutes and then change the oil and filter again right after. I guess I'll find out if I hit it or not when I start it
