Okay, here is the deal. I purchased a set of supposed "brand new Tomei Type A" valve springs for the rb26 cylinder head. Now I received pictures of these "tomei" springs in a Tomei box, correctly labeled for type A springs. Okay no big deal right? We they just arrived today. Over the weekend I pulled all the valves/springs outta of my rb26 head, so I compared the springs. Problem is, I see NO difference. Measured both of them, both measurements come out to 46.54mm tall standing and 3.7mm coil diameter. (which is stock rb26 valve spring specs)

Here are some pics, can you tell which one is the "Tomei" and which is stock?

(hint "tomei" is on the right)

I'm pretty upset about this, I did get a decent deal on these off a member on Hyridz.org. I will not say his name yet, I'm going to question him in and email and get a chance to hear his side before completely jumping to conclusions.

Has anyone got a single pic of a type A spring? I have their specs here http://www.tomei-p.co.jp/_2003....html

Bad part is its marked with a white stripe and so is stock rb26 springs. However coil diameter on the type A is 3.9mm where mine are not..

Any help would be sweet thanks guys.

my tomei springs were almost identical to my stockers...and i bought them new in box.i asked the machine shop about this and they agreed with me but they told me that when they tested them as the compression increases on the spring the spring rate substantialy increases compared to the stockers.get a shop to test them for you, im sure if you tossed them like 10$ they could do it and you'd know for sure.

I think I will, but it still doesn't explain the wrong coil diameter. I'm missing .2mm.. :/

The only way to know 100% without a doubt is to pressure test both springs. The Tomei springs for my RB20 looked very similar to the stock springs but, were easy to distinguish from them when compressed seat pressure was measured.

I'll call my old builder tomorrow see if he has a spring compressor to check with. I'm sure he does. It just makes me sick sitting here measuring both and getting identical measurements. The spring compressor will tell the tale 100% tho. I might get to eat my words, I'll see.

Another thing that bothers me if you look at the top seat's on both springs they show signs of wear (the shiny part). I'd imagine it would be uniform across the face if this was from a cutter off the factory, but its not.

hmm that's interesting. The Tomei's for the RB25 look very different from stock. I'll try to find a pic on my work computer to post up for reference.

Here is the RB25 intake valve spring comparison pic, sorry I sucked at using a point-n-shoot 5 years ago:

I'm heading to my engine builders shop afterwork to compare springs on a press. I'll update the results later. I expected them to look different as well. My valve's were very hard to remove I was using almost all of my weight to compress the spring with the toyo tool. Maybe my head came with Tomei's already? I'll find out later maybe. (my head has the cam clearance cut into the lifter buckets for a high lift cam, which makes me wonder)

its wholey possible that the head already was fitted with tomei springs.iirc the gtr manual has the spring pressure for the stock springs in it...and it does!standard value for free length: 46.54mminstallation load 24.0kg, limit of 22.5id colour white

installation load is the force required to compress the spring to 35mm.

have them pressure tested. that will tell you if they are the real deal

Well, it looks like I get to eat my words.

Tested one spring that was supposed to be a Tomei Type A. Spring force read about 32kgs at 35mm. We tested then the springs I removed from my rb26 head. What do you know 32kg at 35mm. So it looks like my head came with Tomei Type A valve springs.

I'll be taking them back Thursday most likely and testing all of them, to insure they are the same. I'm also going to test them at 37.7mm which is what tomei says should be 24kg.

If anyone's looking for a set of Tomei type A's for their 26 it looks like I have a set for sale. Haha.

Only thing I still find weird as the coil diameter being different than Tomei states.
