so i was talking to my friend that i might keep my car for a while and wanted a turbo system, he told me about this new rear mounted turbo system which is a quarter of the price of a regular turbo system. and u dont have to make room under ur hood (meaning we can have twin turbos if u want)

I have dont some research and have found nothing but good things about this new system. check it out i think i might get it for my bday (jan. 8) and its really str8 forward in how u install it. you can do it ur self if u have some experince with cars, you just need to have a shop mold the pipeing for u

check out the prices

Ugh.

Ask the Q45 guys about STS. They came on here and made themselves look like idiots.

I'm sure the system is cool and all, but they actually think they pioneered something unique.

...what?

This is...interesting...... If it works, then I don't see any reason why one shouldn't consider it, even it's pretty damn unconventional. That being said, I'm a big fan of unconventional, so I'll most definitely give you the benefit of the doubt.

I drove a few cars with a STS single rear mount turbo system, and they do make great power and are fun at the track but all those cars were V8's with upgraded fuel systems, injectors, tunes and one of them a 2004 LS1 had a meth system...Having the turbo in the rear does keep engine bay temps down, but some of the oil return systems did have issues in the past. Install is much easier then regular turbo systems so thats a plus

Here's the homemade Q rear mount:zerothread?id=264685http://forums.nicoc ... ?id=281662

Let's be honest. If you can't manage the install or cover the cost of a front mount system, then you won't likely be able to deal with a rear mount system either.

Also the thread title should be changed. There are pros and cons to both setups and to outright say that rear mount is better is misleading, especially when that statement is coming from someone that doesn't even have a turbocharged car.

+1 ... The install is only half the battle ... other things needed are proper tuning and fuel. True there are pros and cons for conventional vs rear mounts, but one thing to note (in states that matter) is that rear mounts will more likely pass emissons testing since it retains the catalytic converter(s).

STS has a patent on the oil system feeding the turbo in back so they will be the only company doing rear mounts.

He needs something bigger than an STS system to haul his big a$$ around.

Long story short, one of our Q guys built his own rear-mount setup.

An STS rep got on the forum and basically told him he couldn't build a rear-mount system, that it was "patented".

Many lulz ensued.

WTH? how can you enforce a patent on a custom piece of work.

STS is nothing new. They have been around for many years. Their systems have no real drawbacks others than the turbo itself is under your car, susceptible to bumps, bottom outs, and debris. Also, all your lines have to be SUPER long to run a turbo from the back. LOTS of piping, oil lines, and you have to run a special pump to get the oil from the turbo back up to the front in the oil pan, vice a traditional turbo gravity feeding it back down. On the plus side, not as much cooling is needed for the charged pipe going into the throttle body because is cools sufficiently on the way back up to the front.

The price for the whole kit installed and tuned is about 4000. Compared to other systems that about 2000 difference.
