What are the symptoms of such a tragedy?

I've noted a gigantic power loss, and an incredibly loud pounding coming form the engine when I give it gas, but not at idle.

A friend of mine suggested I replace the alternator, but that doesn't seem like a likely solution.

PLEASE HELP!!! I'd like to try and get whatever it is I can fixed today, or begin parting it out today if that's the case.

kthx.

Everything you have described is typical of a spun bearing(rod knocking). I wouldn't run it at all until someone can look at it. If you have a friend who could properly diagnose it that would be good. A shop would probably charge you minimmum fee to diagnose it.

my car did this a few times, its not a rod knock.. when u rev it up and it sounds like its running on 2 cyls right? all i did was smash on it around the block and it stoped.. a spun rod bearing will give u a loud rattle noise threw out any rpm

definetly a spun bearing.... what ever you do DONT "smash on it around the block".... right now repair-wise ur lookin at a machined crankshaft and possibly crankshaft journals or rods needing to be machined as well.... may as well rebuild it while its apart.... if u "smash on it around the block" u will be looking at a completely destroyed engine w/ a hole in the block where the rod ull throw would come out.... check your oil if ur really low i guarantee its a spun bearing.... if u end up gettin it rebuilt and need a mechanic drop me a pm i just rebuilt my entire motor and my friends dohc head....

HAHAHA, smash on the gas to fix problems is surely one of the best ways to go about it.

If it's a spun bearing you should hear it even at idle. Will sound sort of like a diesel (Of course it is the KA so it already sounds like a diesel somewhat ) Usually the car stalls as well. You'd have to keep your foot on the gas to keep it going.

As for Smokem240, I dont know what kind of problem you were having but yikes. I'm all for romping on it though when it seems to be running kind of off.

i dunno bout that cause i spun a bearing about 3-4 months ago and miraculously it would still idle! the only problem w/ stalling i had was when taking off in first it would feel like it was running on 2 cylinders.... mind u i didnt drive it at all once i got to a gas station where i could park it lol.... and it wasnt real loud at idle u mainly heard it when coming off the throttle when shifting gears... (think of it as revving it to 3 grand and then takin ur foot off the accelerator) thats when i heard MOST of the noise
