Car: trying to decide on one...

Okay I got 17x9 sportmaxes all around for my s13 and I knew I needed spacers for thr front so I got some 15mm bolt-on spacers.

Now the original studs stick through the spacer and I can't mount the wheel because the hub studs are too long.

What am I supposed to do? Cut the hub studs off? Remove the spacer studs and hub studs and put extended studs in the hub?

Arrggg....You are unlucky. Some wheels have holes or dimples for those hub studs, but obviously yours don't. You can cut them or put sandwich type spacers. I don't think you need extra spacers, so I would say just cut them. I wonder if anyone sells shorter studs. I've never seen them, but if they are available, you can swap current ones with shorter studs. Or install Nismo 60mm studs and use sandwich type spacers all the way around, but I don't think it's safe.

I happen to have my s13 stock rim out. This is what I'm talking about. Most wheels have this space between holes, so you can clear original studs if you install bolt on spacers. I think sportsmaxes are pcd 100 & 114.3 universial, so you don't have these.

Thanks for the info. Carquest has the right length studs, they are 34mm so that should work, and they are $2 a piece. Just seems like a waste to buy bolt on spacers when I'm going to have to change the studs.

I hear you, but you gotta do it right. Yup, it's weird cuz everyone wants longer studs, but you have to look for shorter ones. I hope everything turns out well for you. Good luck!!!

How about: If you have nothing decent to say Grant, STFU. We all know you don't like Sportmax, but so what if other people use them. Get over yourself, your car may be VIP, but you're attitude and manners are deplorable.

No, it is decent to say

People need to realize what they are paying forThe design of the wheels are not thought out, crappy quality, and overall horrible wheels

They are heavy, cant use spacers, andn crappy offsets

Why do you think i detest themI want people to have the best. And if i was in most of their situationsi would buy some ratty *** used wheels, polish them up, and haev some nice wheels rather than pepboys special

Deal with it.

exactly, if you hit a pothole or curb them out, it's 150 shipped for a new wheel. not $600 and a 2 month wait from japan.

And some of us do not have the VIP bankroll that you have. Some of us have a mortgage, and car payments as well as kids. But we still like having our cars looking nice. I see nothing wrong with buying a cheap wheel, especially depending on where you live. There are sections of I-5 in WA. State, that are terrible, and you WILL trash a wheel driving thru there. Sure, you can take an hour detour to avoid the Federal Way area, but that is retarded. Easier to buy a cheap wheel. I understand that you want the best and would like to see all of us use the best as well, hell, I'm sure that everyone would like some Gram or Motegi wheels, but we all can't afford them. Save me the speech about I should have arranged my priorities earlier in life, and that if I want to play, I have to pay. Because no, I don't. If I want to buy crappy wheels, and have fitment problems, so be it. Maybe I can't afford the more expensive wheels. Also the difference between $600/set and $1500/set is a HUGE difference to some of us. It's knowing your spending limits, and not exceeding them. And a couple of months for the few extra hundred dollars to buy better wheels? Sometimes it takes me close to a year to save up $900. So saving for six months for a set of wheels, or a year and a half, makes a big difference. If I come to this board to ask advice, I hope to get it, and not a thread full of BS about the wheels that Grant doesn't approve of. If you see someone with a problem with Sportmax wheels, just don't answer. Let the other less hostile members reply. I do have respect for what you do with cars, but I am amazed at your lack of respect to other members, and your deplorable attitude. It's getting old Grant.

Then buy a prius, dont blame your financial obligations on why you cant build your car. I have all that you have except a kid, but im already saving money, ON A MILITARY PAY....its all in the budgeting

The wheels would work if he selected ones with the correct offset so he did'nt have to use spacers. I am firmly against the use of spacers. Take the time to buy wheels that fit and quit the ghetto mods.

There's another option - Go with a 25mm spacer, and eliminate the problem altogether.

I ran spacers on my G35 for a while, and no issues.

Getting the right size wheels would help, OR just set aside the idea of aesthetics for a while - sacrifice "flushness" for safety.

You are the keeper of common sense? Simply looking at your style and tastes make me think differently. Of course, that is just MY opinion and I don't force it down others throats as the defacto standard unlike you seem to. Pick your ego up off your shoulders and get back to reality.
