Car's located very near my office. Hope he can hang on to it for a month...stupid school costing me money. (Actually, just stupid school period...)

5 speed L24 powered and RWD. 120 hp. I don't give a crap about A/C---especially as cold as it's been around here lately. It's just what I need--a commuter/toy that I don't have to be ultra careful with like I do the '93. Plus the gas milage is better. Not a big fan of the paint job. Maybe I'll give it the Krylon treatment or something.

Anyone really familiar with the first gen? I know them only by what I've read. I'd like to know what to look for, more about the engine, that sort of thing...

Haven't contacted the owner yet, so I have no idea of the condition of the car beyond what the ad says...I'll try later. "Needs basic tuneup" could mean a lot of things, though.

This is horrible timing. I'm moving AND starting school in the next week. Hopefully he's got it for a few weeks.

I'll link to this from the datsun forum, too. Hopefully someone's got experience with this drivetrain and platform.

Nice find. Just by the age, I would thoroughly check the body for rust (fender wells, door sills, trunk, and floor boards).

Well...

I test drove the car, and got a closer look.

I'll give this one a pass.

There is "minimal" surface rust, but it's to the point where it'd take some work and well-matched paint to cover well. It's also got hand painted racing stripes. The current owner's kid brother was the former owner, and he was a ricer. The trunk lid has six holes from where the wing used to be. The holes go through into the trunk. I'm certain this translates into bad rust in the trunk bottom, though I didn't have a chance to look as it was full of stuff.

The big turnoff, though, was the fact that everything behind the cat was gone. The L24 sounded amazing un-muffled, but I live in an emissions county, with numerous "noise ordinance" areas. I'd never be able to get away with it, and a new catback would cost more than the car...

Plusses were the car's body, aside from rust, was in excellent condition. sunroof worked fine, all electronics (including that damnable voice) worked fine. The car has an amazing 152k miles on it, and the engine compartment looks extremely clean.

But I simply can't afford to get the car legal and usable, unfortunately.

Hopefully it goes to another enthusiast, instead of some schmuck who just needs "a car" and will send it to the wrecking yard in two years.

Once again I really wanted this car.Oh well. I need a new timing belt on the '93 and there's a front gasket that needs replacing (it's leaking on my control arm bushings and degrading them) so I guess I should save my cash for the car I have.

The drive train in the early model was nearly bullet proof. most run problems on those are traced to ignition components. Or the infamous MAF sensor problems most nissans have. The suspension on it is kinda rough as well translates into alot of body roll.
