Checked compression on the newly installed motor. #4 is low. So now I have 2 f'd up motors. What's the use in that? So I may be selling my Greddy kit and my car because I'm still in school and I just really don't want to afford this anymore. So if anyone wants a Greddy kit email me or something.

Soirry to hear.. that just sucks. Did you reinstall rings/pistons and hone the block? Or just popped in another used engine? How low is low? Maybe the rings just need to be broken in before compression is normal.

Haven't tried that yet. Maybe I will. Here's the problem. When I start the car it idles fine. After it reaches operating temp #4 doesn't fire. Any thoughts?

not firing can be a simple fix. if the compression is low then you might be screwed. what is the compression of #4? how do you know its not firing?

I had problems with my Skyline similer, #5 wouldn't fire once hot, it was the coil. So I suggest swapping the wire, pull the cap, check the contacts, pull the plug, clean/insp/reinstall.

The motor restore worked great on my Blazer...

Compression is 150-150-150-120. I'm going to go talk to a Nissan tech today and see what he thinks.

you think the guys at the dealership know everything? that is low compression but thats not whats making it not fire. i bet after it starts to fire the compression will go up. if its still putting fuel into the cylinder then some of the oil on the walls is being removed making compression lower. when i had some very leaky injectors my compression went from 180 to 165 in certain cylinders

Just try to fix one problem at a time. You know the 4th one isnt firing--so fix that--then go throught the other processes of elimination. Dont go straight to the dealership--most of the time, we know more about our cars than they do......

I guess mines a little worse, I pulled up next to a ZO6 today, a kid I know that details cars in a customers car, so we ran them, the 240 actually pulled in every gear, I had almost a full car length in 4 gear at 5700 then I shut it down, I get to Hooters and park it, and see some smoke coming out of my breather hose, and smoke coming out of the exhaust bad, and the exhaust had adifferent note, sorta loped like it had cams, it was getting fuel, and spark so no problem with that.

I get back to the shop, and check compression, plugs looked like it had been running a little lean, the AF's are around 12-12.3 timings at between 16-17, started a 1 and worked my way back, 175-175-175-65, motor only had 30k on it. So I had too much fun smoking a vette, but it cost, I am hoping I didn't burn up the ring, it still gets up and goes just as good. I'll just P&P, anddo some valve work on my old head, and swap it out and pull the #4 piston and see whats up, just gonna hope for the best.

I was on the dyno when my ringlands on #2 cracked. I didn't notice any problems until I got home and oil was leaking out my air filter. Afterwards, 3 and 4 lost compression. So I put this new motor in only to find out it has some problems. It's getting a valve adjustment so I'm praying that it'll run well enough to get me around.

mechanics arent any better than most of us. some just have a peice of paper saying they took classes. it would probably be worse and cost 10x as much taking it somewhere. i know alot of people that are "mechanics" that i would never let touch my car

When I don't know how to do something, I'm willing to pay others to do it. That's why the car is in the shop for valve work right now. I can do all the engine swapping stuff no problem. But messing with valvetrain is not something which I'm knowlegeable. Hopefully she'll be running ok on monday.

Was the current engine a fresh rebuild or a used donor from a working car?Just curious.

I didn;t mean "ANY" mechanic. I ment a import tuning shop that has experience and the know how of installing a turbo... People who install and tune turbos all week long. Not your average jiffy lube vocational school person.

There are no import tuning shops where I live. I probably still wouldn't take it to an import shop. I trust myself more than most of them. In any case, the head is coming off tomorrow to get to the problem. Hopefully its a valve and not a piston ring. It's a little less costly to fix the valve problem. The good thing is that I'm not getting any blowby so I'm very hopeful that its not a ring.
