Your issues are not uncommon and you are not the first one to experience the issues you're experiencing. Tach jumping is a sign of an improperly ground car. Lights staying is a classic sign of a bad wiring job. Don't over-wire thecar! Worry about the basics of getting the eccs system hooked-up correctly and then worry about the other stuff. Don't fret too much, but don't sleep on it either. Follow my advice my freind and your swap issues should be history. Good luck..........dlong319 wrote:Well, Today I finished (or so i though) my ca18det swap. Although Im clearly not done and I think its the harness or my wiring job. When I powered it up dash lights lit up seat belts started moving, so I decided to try and crank it. Starter clicks but doesnt turn the motor. Oddly enough the tach jumps around when i attempt to crank almost as if an ignition wire is hitting the tach.
Heres the bad part, when the keys off, the dash lights remain on. The brake light stays on also with the brake off. Turn the Key to On and the light goes off. Not to mention when I started touching the harness near the ecu the EGI pump relay decides to start buzzing, then stopped. My Idea bad harness wires, and/or improperly wired.
I wanna know if there is any differences in the KA/SR wiring compared to KA/CA wire up (I used the FRSport.com Sr diagram). Also my shell was auto, so i have not wired the transmission up yet.
Any Helpful Comments??????!
my egi relay started buzzing when i did my swap. Turned out that I didn't have the starter properly groundeddlong319 wrote:

Definitely a bad ecu. A bad wiring job usually causes crap like this to happen. Or maybe the ecu was bad from the start. I once accidentally allowed an injector wire to ground while the engine was running and by doing that, my car wouldn't turn off because the ecu was semi-acting like a turbo timer by keeping the car running. The only way to stop the engine was to unplug the ecu, but other than that the car ran great despite that issue (Old JWT days 2000-2001). Good luck with that mess. I don't miss those dramas .dlong319 wrote:Im getting ready to call this quits, cylinder one and two were filled with gas, idk why. When i say filled im mean locked up the engine filled. The gas started leaking out of the intake manifold.
cylinder 3/4 are high and dry wtf gives?
Maybe a bad ecu.
#3 don't forget about the ground that goes to the 14mm bolt on the intake manifold.dlong319 wrote:ohhh wait. On the ground wire there is 3 connections. 1) the battery 2) the chasis under the battery tray. Where does #3 go?
I guess because i was using the KADE ground cable, it didnt reach. I put on the CA ground cable bolted to the intake manifold and BAM! the starter turned, never has a starter sounded so good. although it still seams to have some ground or wiring issuses. Maybe I fried the ecu with my lack of good grounding, Im gonna continue to trouble shoot.anumeric wrote:
