I think I get it - it's the G over the TL

So I've been test driving the G Sedan (AWD with Sport package) and new TL (AWD) and I think I get it now. I'll be buying the G and here's why.

Gotta love the engine! Power is available everywhere, it's always ready to go. The TL on the other hand seems a little slow off the line and the power band doesn't kick in until your up in the RPM count. Downshifts in the TL seem slower and needed far more often when asking for more speed on the freeway.

The ride of the G seems a little smoother, not any softer, but smoother. The TL ride seems to have a little buzz about it, more very subtle vibrations always coming up through the body and steering wheel. I thought maybe the tire pressure was a little high on it until I checked the pressure.

I like the seats better, better overall comfort. The snugness of the seats is nice and they have more upper back support compared to the TL. Not that the TL isn't comfortable, the G is just better.

The size of the G front cabin is cozier. Initially I was thinking it felt tight, but after spending a weekend in a loaner I realized it just fit nicely. Plenty of spots to rest my arms, etc. The greater size of the TL, which I initially thought was nice turned out to be too big and harder to be comfortable in.

So now I need to decide - do I wait for the 2010s or go for one of the remaining 09's that are around here. Not many Blue Slate or Platinum Graphite with Graphite interior and the sports package around here.

I just wish the I could get the TL's audio system and rear seat room in the G. Since 98% of the time or more its just me or one passenger in the car the back seat room is a very minor issue.

I tell ya, I'm sure glad the dealers were able to give me weekend loaners, otherwise I'd likely be trying to figure out what car to get for many months. They each have their strengths and weaknesses. Nice cars all the way around.

Welcome and of course, we agree with your decision. I used to really like the TL. It had a real nice look to it and then WHAM, some knucklehead turned the front of the car into a freakin clown suit. How can anyone plunk down $40k+ on a car that has identity issues telling the front from the back and has that hideous smile for a front facia?

As far as the interior, I actually think its too busy and odd. Its ok, but not as clean as the G. The exterior does look like a blind naked sushi chef did a touch up of the front end with a samurai sword during an earthquake in freezing temperatures while he was making pancakes out of gunpowder and habanero peppers. in other words, its a mess.

I actually like the look of the TL overall, but they could have done better with the front end. It works better on the TSX and new ZDX, I see changes sooner rather then later coming for the front. At least I know my tastes are completely out of whack, I saw a Pontiac Aztec on the road the other day, that car is still ugly as sin!

I guess I was too busy driving the cars, I found the interiors to be on par in terms of build quality, different but right there with each other. Seems like many car mags hammer on the amount of buttons in the TL, but it's really no different than any other car out there in it's class. I think they figure since they are hammering on the outside design they have to nail something on the interior too.

Oh well, of to research tweaks and upgrades - tinted windows, clear bra (full front) are the first two on the list.
