i think i blew my motor??!!??

ok first off 90 240sx ka24e manual with 247k on it or so.

i have that usual timing chain rattle, but this morning (5 degrees new hampshire) it was ALOT louder then usual. drove it for like 5 mins and it went away...ok

coming home my heater started blowing cold air rather then hot air when it was all the way on hot. about half a min to a min later my car started bucking / hesitating. not bad but you could feel it. i was going up a hill at 45mph in 4th and was barely keeping it there. then about another min later started smelling antifreeze. well im like 10 mins away from my house and i have another motor with 150k sitting in shed so i say screw it and drive it anyways.

so car is bucking, smelling antifreeze, and blowing cold air, obviously no antifreeze running or probibly in the engine.

temp gauge goes up, not all the way to the last 2 bars but never went above that.

got it home popped hood (9pm) smoke coming from manifold area, manifold is cherry red.

get light start looking around engine cant see anywhere where coolant leaked out, cant find a place where rod went through nothing (btw engine didnt knock or anything)

the main reason i probibly couldnt see coolant is because my engine got soo hot it evaporated it, and i more then likly lost my coolant way before i got home.

im thinking i completly blew my head gasket but i honestly dont have any idea..

any suggestions??

..kid i work with blew his headgasket while we were riding in it..ended up blocking off the cat..we drilled holes in the pipe to bypass is so he could limp it home..but yea..basically the same thing happened..almost instantiously

so maybe your cat if your manifold is cherry red

if it is my cat, why did my antifreeze leak out? i checked my radiator lastnight and i have no antifreeze in there anywheres?

lets say it is my headgasket, and some antifreeze got into my block, if i remember right basically my block is shot or will be shot very soon correct?

There's a chance that the chain cut into the coolant passageway of the front cover. That would mean a wipeout.

It's not such a bad engine for overhauling. Not the easiest ... surely not the worst!

the guy i had looking at it to rebuild it said it would be way too much at the moment to rebuild it in my predicament (he knows me very well)

so instead we are going to put in the other motor i got, replace the timing chain, head gasket, compression tests, etc and make the motor durable before it goes in

and ill be cleaning my engine compartment when we pull the motor out too!
