Ignore the hideous paint and the marks of the aftermarket beasts. Try not not to cringe at the mismatched wheels and the fact that it's on a drift track. (No offense midnightsliding, I'm just not a believer of Q drifting. You wouldn't take a S500 drag racing would you? Q's are just too damn big for that drifting.)

The still photo is what I'd like to hear some thoughts on. Say those were installed on a daily driver Q. Pros? Cons?

(I'm not considering getting these BTW. I'm just at work and I'm bored.)

Judging by all the sponsor's logos it looks like he's got a lot of companies giving him free parts to put on his Q and drift away. If I could get a tire manufacturer and a transmission shop to sponsor me I think I might be out there too. Wes is a big fan of drifting and has had his Q out to the track.

To have the coilovers like that on a car that's a daily driver is bad though right?

Let's try a new tack:

If one were to install these coilovers on a daily driver Q, what would be the negative effects? Decreased handling? Ride quality? Would there be a large reduction in ground clearance? A reduction significant enough to induce dread and terror upon encountering a speedbump?

Trying to get a free exchange of ideas here. I'm quite bored at work.

Since they are being used on a "race" car I highly doubt they decrease handling. Ride is undoubtedly stiffer which is either good or bad depending on the drivers likes or dislikes. It certainly looks significantly lower than OEM so yes, you'd have to be careful on bigger bumps.

It's a compromise of a comfy ride and stock looks for an aggressive, modified, performance machine. No different than modifying any other vehicle this way. Not sure if you've seen the details of that Q but about the only thing that's "stock" is the body work. It's got a turbo in-line 6 cyl, manual trans, gutted interior, etc. See the Jan '07 NICO Ride of the Month...

http://www.nicoclub.com/ROTM/rotmjan07.shtml

Highly a personal thing, I would be considering them if I didn't already have my Cali Customs springs/Tokico shocks waiting to be installed...

That Q is set up for the controlled environment that only a track provides, unlike our typical street driving where you have pot holes, expansion joint, crappy patch jobs, steel plates, speecbumps and humps and generally crappy road maintenance issues to live with.

Asuspension stiff enough for track duty would be murder to both car and driver used on the street.

well im not trying to pick a fight and i clearly understood the question u were asking i was just comenting on the statement u said about drifting and his paint and wheels it seems on this forum that if someone does something out of the norm it mostly looked down upon(not by everyone) but alot of people so thats why i said to each his own and i am pretty sure that those suspension changes would seriously effect the ride of that car

I actually have the same set with 8/6 springs on them sitting in my closet right now.

I want the adjustability but I'm still working out the height issue.

Call me crazy, but I really don't like the idea of scraping my President parts up on curbs/speed-bumps/small woodland creatures.

You'd destroy your suspension in 15k miles. Try that track! Not to mention how fast you'd go through tires.

Then again, I drive 50k/year so I have a skewed perspective. If you drive 5-10 k/year, balls in your court.

You installed the President parts?! Pics?

Thanks everyone for posting. Just didn't want Page 1 to get stale.

If you ever go to a drift event...notice what all the drifters do to break traction before going into a powerslide-a quick pull of the handbrake. Now they have the handbrake right by a manual transmission shifter. They don't even need much power to drift at this point.

Now our Q45s have a push pedal handbrake, on top of that its an AUTOMATIC. Now all this guy could use to make a slide was the GAS PEDAL... no quickpullable e-brake to break the car into a slide. ALL POWER BABY! I've seen the video where he pulls some great drifts and also where he taps the wall (ouch luckily it wasn't a hard one). I have to say this guy pulls some better drifts than people I see at the events with 5-speeds and stuff.

Every morning I wake up... get ready, and see a badddasss sedan (2 of them) on the driveway or street. Just looking at it has me daydreaming! This is a mobster family sedan... better yet a great and reliable mafia getaway vehicle. To top it off it will walk away from a 434HP V12 BMW 760 at over 120MPH... Some V8 eh?

My old job gave me 2 squad cars... a 2004 impala which was great and a Police package Crown Victoria... that Crown Vic could take some damned corners! My Q can take the same corners faster without a police package suspension setup and it weighs over 600lbs more.

Sorry for the lengthy post... I was bored too

He converted his to a 5-speed and he installed a e-brake lever as opposed to the pedal. That pedal just doesn't cut it.

I wanted a P71 Police Interceptor. Preferably a black one ala FBI. Way less maintenance on those compared to a Q right?

I've told this story on the board before about my buddy who was thinking about buying a Q that was a retired Narcotics UC car. He said they put tougher suspension on, stripped the interior, bolted a plastic bus bench in the rear and tinted the windows. He said that looking at it from the outside, it looked like a stock Q. The inside and under the hood were a different matter.

How bad *** would it be if Q's were used as police cars? Plenty of get-up & go. Europe has cops using M5's as police cars and E and S-Class Benzes as taxis.

Ahh I C... heard it was also a skyline engine...? dont know if thats true...

I disagree with you... We don't need fast police cars... What they have now paired with police lights that clear traffic in front of you they are faster than needed.

They brought in a couple of Dodge Charger Police cars here in Elk Grove... I read somewhere that they are 350HP, thats got me scared!

I regularly take my q drifting in the rain (i work and slaveway...safeway and so i use the big open space behind the store) And the only problem i have found is that the power band is not low enough. i takes a few precious seconds for the tires to start roasting, and once they do it hit that power band and really starts smoken right about the time you need to let off. Tho i think i finally am staring to get the hang of it. i started thump-running it. I need to over correct a little too much to get the *** end out, then start thumping the gas insted of being steady. if you keep into it steady, it will hit the powerband and send you for a loooooooop. thats whey you got to thump it. and keep thumping tell you want out. but all in all. change the gear ratio around and you can do it beter, easyer.

the real torque comes in right at 2500RPM... When its not raining I gotta get the revs to 2500-3k and then smack the gas while turning and ill get a great controllable fishtail... in the rain its pretty damn easy to get the car out never even go over 3000 rpm...but my back tires are also completely bald

Make sure your tire pressure is what the tire manufactor recommends... I couldn't even burn out in the rain with bald tires when pressure was low.

? You do know that Civics are FWD right? Best drifting setup is RWD. Why take that step down?

Idk. Maybe if it snows and I find an empty parking lot, I'll give it a spin. Just to get it out of my system. My friend drifted a little once while I was in his car. Either he wasn't good at it, or it's a highly overrated experience. He had an MT Acura CL.
