I was driving my car down the road tonight and noticed a very loud fast clicking / ticking sound...pulled over checked the oil and nothing on my stick. Added a quart to make it back home and when i got there i jacked it up and theres oil leaking everywhere..there was oil splaters all the way to the back of the car. Would this be a oil pan gasket? it looked like the main drips were coming from the middle of the oil pan and where the engine meets the transmission.....??? What do i do??? where do i go from here????? (oh by the way my engine has 236k)

Might be the rear main seal has gone away.

Idk i think me and my freind are going to just replace the rear main seal and oil pan gasket.
I prollly drove it a good 3 miles or so on very low oil. Did i must likely do damage?

If you drove it home with low oil and are scared of damage then put more oil in it and start it and listen for clanking...If it sounds normal it's fine. It DOES have a lot of miles though, I'd rebuild but that's just me.

Check the oil pan, where the oil pan meets the block, check near the oil filter, check that little oil pressure sensor next to the oil filter, check behind the crank pulley...etc.

Lets just say it was a bigger oil mess then BP.

getting another motor tommrow morning. rear main was suicidal/oil pressure sensor was spraying a mist/oil pan gasket was gone in the rear.

Car is now shiney on the under side :rofl

EDIT* i dont know if the OP is my friend or not, but the '89 240sx and "me and my friend are going to replace the oil pan gasket and rear main" sound to coincidental. lol

your pcv valve could be adding crank pressure causing it to leak from your old a** seals.

metal shavings in the oil/pan would indicate that damage was done when you ran on low oil. What'd you end up doing?
