lol what else should I do while I'm doomed to couch + tv + food heaven/hell for the next few days?? Take pics of the almost broken ankle that got me there of course!

*for those not familiar with anatomy or ankles in general/common sense: no my ankle is NOT SUPPOSED to freakin be that big!

Yeah so getting out of the ambulance today with one of my patients I tripped on a hook that we use to hold the stretcher, and ended up rolling my ankle really bad (I heard and felt the pop). I had to be rolled in by my partner right behind the patient that I was caring for.... lol I gave a report for my patient and then one for myself. Good thing EMT's get the fast track/top notch treatment at hospitals-- it was my first time experiencing that and I must say it was niiiice.

So yup, I'll be Nico'ing a little bit more often for the next few days... workers comp here I come! It hurts but woooooooooooooooooooo free money + nico!!!

Ouch

What exactly does "sprained" mean? I know the idea of it, but really happens to something if its sprained? Like stretched...?

Dam you rolled your ankle pretty bad. I have rolled my right ankle three times. My last time was a few months ago and it still not totally healed yet it was about that bad. Best you can do is stay off of it and not bend it and keep ice on it.

ah samething happened to me 2 summers ago. i rolled mine while wearing sandles and playing basket. Yes i know, I should be nominated for the Darwin award. btw, is that ankle a 2nd degree sprain? mine was, i tore the tendons up pretty bad.

Anyways, i went to the hospital and they wrapped my whole leg up in a big cloth bandage for a week w/crutches, then I got a cast. Yep, i got to walk in a cast during the last 2 mos during my 3 month summer. yay!

a sprain is the stretching/tearing of the ligaments that attach the bones together.

you gonna get an mri to see if you tore anything up pretty bad? That's pretty damn swollen...

yeah I had it x-rayed at the hospital when I went. The doc said I have good news and bad news: the good news is that it isnt broken, and the bad news is that it isnt broken. He said that with bad sprains with this, I'm almost certanly going to injure it again and again before it gets much better.

I'll be alright though, I can even stand on it a little this morning!

Yeah the bltch about sprains as they take longer to heal completely than a break. I'm gonna guess the muscles didn't pull any "pieces" of bone loose. I did that ... twice and it hurts like a biotch when driving a stick.

Ice and elevation are the leys to reducing the size. Good luck.

Ouch that sux.. you are now RICE bound lol Rest, ICE, Compression, Elevation I fractured my ankle a few years back, hurt at first a few days later was back playing basketball. I once witnessed while playing basketball a older guy lose his footing and popped his ankle out.. luckily there was another older guy playing with us who popped that sucker back in.

heh yep.. Ive done this a few times and I recgonised that cracking/popping sensation as soon as I felt it. ... the "awww CRAP" sound. heh.

So the ER called me back today, and suprise suprise: the freakin thing IS broken! Not a major break just a pitting fracture (a chip), but nonetheless a little bit more serious than before. The prognosis and treatments are the same (lol yup its RICE!), but I'm looking at a little more (paid) time off from work.

All I wanna know is, how long till I can get into the garage and start working on the KA-T again!!

Thanks for the support guys

I did that hanging my foot off of a golf cart. I slamed my foot right into a rock. the force yanked my ankle back and ripped the shoe laces off my shoe. It sucked ***, I couldn't clutch in without pain for about a week and a half

hope it gets better, though being no stranger to ankle injuries, once you sprain one it'll keep coming back (especially if you play sports) they take A LONGGG time to get 100% better.... bah its been like a year since I sprained my ankle... I have a feeling soon it'll happen again.Good luck man this is the time for your other leg to become ultra muscular hehe ;]
