I bought my wife a little Miata this past Christmas as basically a toy to play with and drive to tennis in. I thought she would love it being a 2 seater ( it was a surprise, she had no idea she was getting it ), but as it turns out she really wanted a 4 seat convertible because with just 2 seats she couldn't take both kids in the car at the same time.

So today I went out and got my wife a 4 seat convertible. I had to make sure it was safe since the kids will be in it more now. So below is what I ended up with... I still own my G so you can't kick me off the boards ... at least I hope you can't

If you made it this far and are curious, it's a 2009 128i. It has the Premium package, Cold weather package, IPOD adapter, Convenience Access, Xenon Headlights, and Steptronic 6 Speed. It's Cashmere Silver Metallic with a Savanna Beige interior and black top. It had 162 miles when I drove it off the lot. We've only had it for a couple of hours now but I'm seeing myself driving this one a LOT more than I did the Miata - which was never.

Heh, I know, I know. Couple of different reasons we ended up with this. 1) My wife thought it would be weird to have the same type of car as me. 2) She liked the back seat room more on this one. 3) The G's are REALLY hard to find and couldn't get as good of a deal on since they are so new.

Also, you were a lot nicer in your post than I thought people would be

We've had his & hers Mustangs, Pathy's, and G35 sedans, so our neighbors know we are car freaks!

But, your wife looks happy and that is what is key to having peace in the family!!

Congrats! It looks very nice!!!

Wow...nice car! I'm sure she is going to have fun with that.

I told my hubby to NEVER surprise me with a car. I'm much too picky.

Heh, sorry about that

The sad part is, that out of the 3 cars we have now my G is the oldest. Guess that just means that I get the next new car

Nice... But if you are going to have the trouble with BMW how can you not at least have the power from BMW I would have only bought that car in the 135i Version. Just my .02

Good luck with it and keep us posted how you like it!

If I was going to be primary driver it would have had to be the 135i. I drove one of those as well and it definitely hauled. But ultimately it was her choice. The 128i is a very nice cruiser, which is exactly what she was looking for in a family convertible, and for the price difference this one made sense. It rides smooth, corners nice, the shifts are almost unnoticeable, and they seem to have put a lot of thought into the details of what a convertible should be.

I'll keep you posted on how I like it after a couple of months.

yeah i135 if i was in the market for that kind of car... but its funny how what a lot females think make a car nice is so much different from what a lot of males think... like my GF only needs the car to be "cute" and not break down.

but yeah as long as she is happy

i heard the 128 and 135 especially were pocket rockets, you dont have to tell us, but we know you going to secretly take it for some spins

Just curious...

Based on looking at your pics, it appears that you have a garage on both ends of your house.... Is it me?? No, and I'm not drinking......yet.

Good choice. I don't like the Miata. 128 has a solid engine. More reliable than the 135 for sure.

Very Nice! I test thrashed, I mean test drove a 135 vert a few weeks ago. I was very impressed with it. They handle very well, and had tons of power. But no need for a 135 for the wifey.

Yep, I think the 'cute' factor did play into it But I do have to admit, the little Bimmer is pretty cute

I wish I had a garage on both sides of my house. Actually we have a 3 car garage with a double door and a single door. The pics with the wrought iron fence and garage to the right are actually the neighbors house

Yep, no turbo which is a plus and a minus.

Looks like you can get it pretty close to the 300hp that the 135i has by adding an intake, exhaust, and performance chip.... Gotta keep telling myself its a family car I'll just have to use the money to mod my G some more.

Exactly! It was still a tough choice though, I debated for quite a while even though the wife wanted the 128i I was still thinking I should just get the 135i and deal with the consequences later, but rationality prevailed.

Yeah you don't want to deal with all the problems they have. I can't believe they still have problems with the fuel pump on the 135 and 335.

I dont know about all this.... two rival cars sitting next to each other. One of these mornings you'll wake up to find your Bimmer trying to trash your G. Devious little monster...

in humans, the dominant chromosomes and stuff always win, so the offspring would look identical to a G35, since it is far superior in every imaginable way.
