I just got my car together. YEAH FUN!!! The install is done. But there is a problem. I was doing fine and then when I filled up the gas tank I started to smell gas in the car. I thought that it might have been just the fact that I had just left a gas station and after a while it went away. But then some odd hours later when I was driving again I smelled it. It was kinda strong and would smell for a bit, and then it would go away again. What is this? I did a search and read something about being to rich. The car runs completely fine other than that. What do you guys think it could be?

too much Taco Bell? Check your fuel sytem under the hood for leaks; the hoses, the filter, regulator and injectors. Check you filler neck and make sure you gascap is fully screwed on.

Hi,

Well I am assuming, that your problem is from the gas tank section, since it only happened when you filled up with gas,

Usually if you remove the fuel pump out( not sure if you did or not), there is a seal there that needs to be replaced if not, it will smell gas from there.but you were saying that you filled it up, so check if your gas tank has some hole on the top of it due to rust, it only smells when the tank is full or the filler neck could also cause that. Also what ever themadscientist mentioned could cause this problem.

Good luck

ah fuel. i love gas leaks. on my van the little regulator sorta thingy on the end of the fuel rail got eaten through and so when you started it, it would spray gas on the exhaust manifold (boy that was fun to discover!) and on my dad's bmw, the high-pressuer fuel feed to the engine cracked and constantly misted the exhaust manifold with gasoline. kinda lucky that neither one burst into flames, as they were driven for about a week before the problem was diagnosed. you could check those 2 and see if they apply to you, otherwise, stick with the people that know something.

I had a Mazda 626 that did that. I had a hold in the very top of the gas tank. As long as I didn't put more than 3/4 of a tank of gas in it I was fine. But I've never heard of anyone having problems with their tanks rusting as Nissan is pretty good about protecting against that kinda thing. I would check fuel lines if it were me...

I work at a pool store, and when I replaced my fuel pump, I got the o-ring at work for 10% above cost, which came to a whopping $.30....

Thanks Jon:) Saved me a lot of trouble checking out the other possiblities. Car runs fine. I haven't pushed it at all (I went 60 mph all the way home) and I don't plan to until everything is together. I need a FMIC cheap. Does anyone have one?
