Heres a lesson i learned, but luckily it wasnt the hard way.

Carfax doesn't pick up everything. it only knows about stuff that is done at major places / if your insurance paid for it. If you take the car to a mom and pops place, carfax probably will never know.

I was going to say that as well...

I got my 96 in 99 with 28k on it. It was in a minor blunder as the door and rear quarter had been resprayed and the rear fender lip had a slight deviation from perfect in it...

Ran a car fax about a year ago to find nothing.

Then there was that whole M3 with mix and matched parts on the net a while back...

If there is nothing physically wrong with it and you cant tell becuase it has been repaired correctly or wasnt that bad to warrant frame damage, I wouldnt worry about it. Chances are they didnt know, ran a carfax only to have it come up clean, and arent lying (to the best of their knowledge)...

If your Carfax comes up clean, you can always have a *reputable* collision repair shop look at the car. If they can't find anything, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

both door alignments are way off, as well as the trunk. While braking or under hard acceleration the passenger side door gives out a mysterious creaking sound and also on that side, a portion of my roof (where it meets the sunroof) is raised for some reason and water is getting under it and is rusting. Also, my driver's side door almost never shuts completely the first time you try to close it. Oh yeah, and did i mention the front bumper is pretty torn, the rear one sags a little and the car was repeated... pretty poorly i might add. I noticed the paint job and the front bumper when i first went to get the car but i figured the bumper was due to the guy bumping into a curb and the paint job was perhaps because he wanted a different color? Everything else i found out upon closer inspection. I did the "free" carfax report and it says there are 10 "reports" or whatever on file for the car but carfax won't go into any more detail unless i pay.:(

Well here are some things you can do to check, at least for repaintage. Open the hood and feel inside on the inner edge of the side. If its rough, its been repainted. Also, you can see the fisheyes/imperfections if you stare at one spot and move back and forth when light is on the car.
