i searched, what size air filter for s14?

is 3" the correct size filter for an s14 drop in filter? was going to get a cheapy air filter off ebay so i can take out the air box.

question - why do companies put air boxes on cars stock? there is no way all that extra piping and plastic and stuff that you can rip out when you put in a filter costs less than a little cheap filter that clamps to the maf. does it give better low end or somthing?

it's quieter i know for a fact...otherwise, i dont really know...keeps the filter safer? lol
